Was down at the Preston docklands area in the wild grass verges and found this fantastic spider.

If you don't like them, tough! Cos theres five pics of him (or her!) Last one is cropped.

I'm not sure yet what species but hopefully will find out soon enough.

Looks like a typical Araneus (sp) - they do come in differing flavours - nice captures :) .

[Edit] Perhaps a Marbled Orb Weaver ...

What a wonderful coloured spider. The second and last images are great.

Alistair.

Thanks.

After research, it is indeed the "Araneus quadratus" an Orb spider. It spins a large orb web in gaps between vegetation.

Not scary at all really... No British spiders can do you any harm..

Yes - the Sigma 105 used. A very good lens if a little slow to focus. I love using it.

:D:lol::D

It's the "Araneus quadratus" which is the latin name for an Orb Spider.

Thanks for looking.

Paul.

Lovely shots Paul, I can't see #5 (red cross), but #4 is my fave. Excellent work with the exposure. Beautiful spider.

Hiya Paul,

Super series of shots, as Toby say "the last one does her justice" BTW I think this is a ' Four Spot Orb Spider ' araneus quadratus

Cheers for now
Mark

It is the four spot - I didn't know the diferent family names except that I soon discovered it was the ar. quadratus.
