Like many of you, I have a dirty sensor that needs cleaning. I'm willing to try and do it myself having read many of the posts in this forum. The problem is that I am in Hawaii and cannot find the recommended Eclipse cleaning solution. No one will ship it to me from the mainland because the air carriers consider it hazardous cargo. With that said, are there any known substitutes that might be more readily available? Would rubbing alcohol work or would it leave too much of a residue. Just want to make sure I do it right and not mess up my sensor.

Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried WB Hunt's? They shipped it to me, even though Adorama and B&H wouldn't. It's worth a shot.

From what I've read, Eclipse solution is just highly purified methanol. Perhaps you can find it from a chemical supply company, no doubt by the gallon. :D

I got to tell you.. I just finally got my first bottle of eclise last weekend.. and the stuff sucks for cleaning lenses! :(

I got it to "do" the sensor.. but now I'm not sure I want to put this stuff on the CMOS!

I have been using a little bottle of Canon lens cleaner and it leaves MUCH fewer swirl marks.

I was stunned at how long it took me to clean a filter with the Eclipse..

Stunned I say :)
