Searched for this but could not find anything.
I see lots of 40D vs 5D.
How's the IQ difference?
I know the the N has more FPS but other than that how does 40D stack up against it.
If I had to get a second body should I but the 40D or get a used N?

Actually I am somewhat surprised no one has done a comparison, as it would be a more fair one over the 5D, or would it?
I never used a Mark II N

And you all know what people generally feel about the 40D, so I would be interested to hear what Mark II N users think, and do any have both bodies.
I do a little Football shooting and the 40D is better at that than the 30D

The 40D images have a 5D-like quality look and feel to them. I can't really put my finger on it, but it is what it is. With that said, we all know that the 5D IQ was superior to the 1D2N. Draw your own conclusion from there. ;)

EDIT: I will add that I was never disappointed with the IQ of my 1D2N, but always knew that there were better cameras out there. What I consider some of my best shots was made with the 1D2N. It's still a great all-around camera, but to be completely honest, I'm not missing it.

Well, I don't know that at all and I've owned both for a while. I used both at a wedding this weekend, and the images from both cameras are very close in IQ. The 5D has the edge when it comes to noise, but that's not the only thing that contributes to image quality. :)

I think Romy found the 40D to be not as good for BIF as the 1DIIn.

Mark, my good friend and close POTN associate, by no means is the 5D or any other camera leaps and bounds better than the 1D2N in IQ, but in all honesty I will say that the advantage of the larger full frame sensor is apparent, especially when considering cropping or enlarging for print. ;) But we don't resort to pixel peeping do we?

To be fair, the 1D2N was the best all-around camera I've ever owned PERIOD. It can do things the 5D and 40D can only dream about, and is probably only bested by the 1D Mark III (AF issues aside) or *GASP* the Nikon D3! as far as overall performance and features go. ;)

Oh, I absolutely agree with you on that point, but I've seen far too many posts where 5D owners imply that there are enormous differences in IQ between the 5D and all other cameras, and frankly, my experience just doesn't support those findings.

I seriously doubt anyone would be able to quickly and decisively determine the origin of either of two well exposed prints from a 1DMKIIN or a 5D when printed at 8x12 (no crops) size. I certainly couldn't and I tried.

you can never compare just one picture from each camera. you have to compare many (100s) in all shooting conditions.

the best picture that i've ever taken was with my 20d but as a whole i've got many many more better ones with the 5d.

if that comes as a surprise to people, they really shouldn't be using any camera. the mkIIn was and still is the KING for BIF.

i hear you Snir. i think we'll have to wait about 6 months before we get an honest assessment of the 40d.

so far from what i'm hearing it has better IQ than the 5d and is almost as good at tracking as the mark III.

maybe canon is trying to bolster the entry level numbers by getting us to upgrade to the 40D ;)?
