Who doesn't get that?

But this is, /pointstotheheader, the "Canon EOS digital cameras" hardware forum... "Photography is about the photos" is a few forums down. It's a cool place, too. Don't be afraid to stop by...

You are a little young on the forum to be directing traffic......don't you think?

Gear is fun, for a while.

Much like getting new golf clubs. I did that a few times, now I have clubs that are very, very good and are about ten years old. I shoot the same score with any 'decent' club.

Like I said, it is all fun and games until the bills arrive.

Anything else I grab has a very specific purpose in mind, something which will allow more captures.

Thumbs-up on the thread. Good post.

b) that leaves..... what you currently have and what you already get great results with.

Yeah, we do that all over the place a few forums down.

I agree with what you wrote, but, well, we've already talked about what was old, back when it was new and since. At least, in the hardware forum. Major announcements and releases from Canon and announcements from Nikon are going to, rightfully, light up the hardware forum. It's always been, and always should be...

Since when does post count make you more correct?

It's not post count - its knowing what happens on and in these forums from having been around a while. Joining in 2007, maybe there is more to learn in that area.

If we can have bikini shoots in the gear forum - we can certainly have this discussion. Wouldn't you say? ;)

This is EXACTLY where this thread belongs. You don't send your best evangelists to the church down the street. You send them where people don't believe.

I still want an 85L.

Blonde you are totally, completely sane.

Which is why there is probably a contract out on you from the gear manufacturers. You're talking blasphemy in their eyes.

You are also totally correct in your assessment.

But how long can you keep clean? When the 1Ds Mk III & D3 hits the shelfs, your inner demons will come out more stronger! :D

so i am sitting here at home trying to decide on my next step (i am going through a bit of a kit reorganization) and as i read through 1000's of threads about the 40D, 1DmkIII, D300 and the D3; my eyes opened up and millions of thoughts just started jumping in my mind. have i gone totally insane? have we become so obssesed with things like super clean image at ISO 960000 and 9" LCD screens? is 6-8 fps really that slow that all of a sudden we MUST have 10fps to get the image? do i really need 256MP to get a nice 16x24 print on my wall??

as all the thoughts started kicking my brain, i decided to go into my gallery and look at my images. i also decided to look up on my wall and look at the prints that i have made in the past year. all of a sudden, the world became silent and my heart start to pound in the speed of light. as i looked at the 20x30 print i made of my nephew not too long ago using my old 1DmkII (yes, the slow one with the tiny LCD and "only" 8mp), i realized what i have done. i became so obsessed with all the gear BS that i spent my energy on keeping up with the latest and greatest instead of creating the art that made me buy a camera in the first place.

i realized that i do not need 256MP, i do not need 10fps, i don't really need 9" LCD. i NEVER use 9600000 ISO and most of all i realized that what i had before was really all i needed and that at the end of the day, all i really NEED is a beautiful subject matter and a good eye.

not really sure what the point of this post is but i thought that i would share with you one of the very few times that my brain actually works :)

I'm still kickin' it with my 1D classic and a 20D. Won't see me running for the MkIII OR the 40D until one of mine breaks.
