Display model? I don't think so. How many people took the lens off and poked the mirror with their finger?

yeah but that warranty covers a lot.. i bought my warranty from best buy as well. and i can throw my camera on the floor, and they will give me a new one free of charge( for one time only). that warranty isnt too shabby at all.
i personally think thats a great deal. i walked out of best buy with my xti for just about 1300 dollars, and that was with the kit lens, a 30 dollar bag, warranty, and a 2gb card. thats it.

so if the shutter fails you, you can take it in.. when you get higher up on the actuations mark then you can toss it, and they will cover it.

i would go for it.

With the latest B&H code you can get the 30D+28-135 new for $1249 from B&H. Wouldn't that be better?

I'd have to go with Ardant's suggestion on this one. The Bestbuy deal isn't bad, but no joke about people poking things with their fingers, twisting knobs a bit too fast, trying to move parts that were never meant to be moved.

Sure, they give you a 4-year warranty, but let me play devils advocate. Let's say they do a perfect job of honoring the warranty. Perhaps this item will be trouble.

But then again, let's say it was abused and gives you nothing but grief with strange, bizarre problems... the result of clumsy ignorant customers - several times a year for the duration of the warranty. Sure, you won't get charged for any repairs. But how much is your drive time, aggravation, and loss of use worth to you? No thanks. With a price so close, better to go B&H. It's reputable and it won't be used.

Just remember with Best Buy, if you ever have a problem that you need to use the 4 year warranty, they require the lens to be with it. So, you can't sell the lens off and have to keep it to keep the warranty valid.

You don't get the 4yr warranty. As mention above the warranty will cover anything.

Another good point on what could very well be a good warranty, but a real P.I.T.A. to use if you have to.

Granted, if you buy it new from B&H you won't get a 4 year warranty. But if you use a gold or platinum credit card to place the order, that will DOUBLE the warranty up to 1 year. So what's the original new warranty on stuff.... 1 year? So you end up with a 2 year warranty on new gear vs. 4 years on manhandled samples.

For me personally, it's not worth the risk and aggravation. But then I do wedding work and have to 100% sure of my gear. Your circumstances are different.

An excellent suggestion also - plus most of the folks here are honest and reliable and don't usually abuse their gear like department store strangers :D.

I'd pass on the Best buy deal for the reasons already mentioned.

For a few dollars more you can get the 40D kit (without the warranty) from Best Buy, or get the same lens and a gently used 30D here for under $1000.

I have had a very different experience with Best Buy’s warranty. I purchase the warranty on the iPod thinking that the iPod is fragile and they sold it hard when I was in a weak frame of mind. Well within a 3 weeks I was having issues with the iPod so I took it back to exchange. They indicated that their warranty does not kick in until Apple’s warranty expired so off to Apple it went. I got the iPod back 5 weeks later with the disk replaced. Within 2 weeks I had the same issue and we went back to Best Buy. Same thing, back to Apple and another 5 weeks and another new disk. This happened one more time. Of the first 5 months, the iPod was gone over 3 of them. I could have done this all with Apple only faster and saving the worthless warranty $$$.

Can anyone confirm this? because I am thinking about selling the 28-135, and also buy the warranty from bestbuy. FYI, the warranty price for body only and the kit are the same.

I just sent my 30D in for repair and they did not say a thing about the lens that came with it. With any luck they will have to replace it. They are out of 30D so it would be a 40D. I
