I've never dealt with their warranty service myself, but I would strongly suggest that you call the Customer Service Department at your local BestBuy. This way you won't have to rely upon hearsay and speculation.;)

Can anyone confirm this? because I am thinking about selling the 28-135, and also buy the warranty from bestbuy. FYI, the warranty price for body only and the kit are the same.

I would stay far away from this deal.

Do you really need that lens? A 40D body is cheaper than this deal.

With the latest B&H code you can get the 30D+28-135 new for $1249 from B&H. Wouldn't that be better?

Errr....what latest code(s)?

There's nothing like opening a new box with a brand spanking new camera inside and filling in the genuine warranty card as the first "Owner"

I have a friend that lives in California that bought her Olympus from Best Buy. She was visiting Orlando this summer for the week and It went out and they replaced it on the spot for her. I purchased my 20D from Circuit City and 5 days after the factory warranty expired my shutter froze up. I have an extended warranty thru them and it had to be sent out for repair but they did a good job and I had it back in a week.

It is really a personal decision. For every good account you hear you will hear a couple of bad ones.

Good luck!

My local bestbuy has the worse customer service. I called on Monday to check to to see if they have 40Ds and got hang up twice!!

I wouldn't touch a Best Buy demo camera witha ten foot pole. Have you seen what people do to those things?

As others here have said, I would never, ever, by a floor model camera. It has most likely been used and abused. You'll be hard pressed to get the inside of the camera cleaned out (no matter how hard you try).

A better bet (in my opinion) is to buy a lightly used 30D from the forum -- they seem to be going for $825-$850. Then if you really want the 28-135...well, they are being posted left and right with new ones going for $300-$325 or even less for a used one.

Just a thought -- good luck in the search!
Bryan

And then again would you keep it 4 yrs?????

I keeped my 10D for 4 years. Just because a new camera comes out doesn't mean you upgrade.

After reading all the replies I decided to get it. The camera has had no abuse to the mirror because the lens is locked to the camera. There is no physical wear on the camera. One of my main reason for going with Best Buy was because of the warranty and I had the opinion of 90 day some as cash. Being that I wasn't blessed with alot of money this worked out great for me and heck did I really need another camera NO. But it's nice having another now. The plus side to all this is if this camera ever dead under warranty you get a new camera no matter what model is out to replace it.

To add to this I had a camcorder that I had purchase and it quit working on me after about 2 yrs of having it. I went in to best buy after remembering that I purchased it with the warranty. They took the camera and sent it off with out any problems.

So wish me the best and thanks for all your replies your input definitely help me look at alot things.

Well extreme it sounds like you've had good luck with your local BestBuy - that's nice to hear and a likely indicator of how you will be treated if you have any issues. Have fun with the new purchase and post us some pix when you're ready.

I confess to knowing little about the 30D, but how did they "lock" the lens to the camera? I wasn't aware of any locking feature other than the usual attachment mechanism.
