My Main issue is noise. I've decided to get the 70-200 2.8L along with the camera and save for the 17-55 2.8 IS, because my 18-200 has a widest aperature of 6.3 in those 100mm+ ranges. I can deal with the 3.5-5.6 for the ranges before 70mm.

I'm expecting to see a jump in noise controll, but i'm curous to see an ISO 1600 and 3200 shot.

Anyone mind posting one?

Switched to the "dark side" but I like these boards.

I just got my 30d today. Huge step up from the XT. You'll be happy, no doubt.

Yeah I was gonna buy a 30D, but with the 40D coming out, the 30 is already being pulled off shelves.
The few places that still have the 30D in stock, only dropped the price by 100..some even kept it at the same price. So i figured, i might as well pay the 100 bucks more and get the 40.

And I'm Not going Used again for a camera body...Huge problems with my XT and the reason why i'm upgrading so soon.

What kinds of problems were you having? Please share. I just picked up a second-hand 30D and it is great so far... You just have to be a bit more careful buying used.

The camera was working fine for roughly 5 months..
then suddenly I started getting Crazy Hot pixel issues....I could probably count 100+ on a single image after a 10 second exposure.

The reall problem is...they slowly started showing ast faster and faster shutter speeds...Currently i can see lots of hot pixels at shutter speeds of 1/50 and only a couple at 1/60.

I went from an XTI to a 40D. See below for some ISO noise comparisons between the two.

All taken at 1600iso, 1/320, 3.2 17-55mm. All are sooc with crop on the shady side of her face.

original - sooc
xti
40D
40D with custom function noise reduction

I feel that with the noise reduction there is a significant difference. One that I am happy with anyway. Just want to clarify the noise reduction is something you set in the camera, NOT something done in pp.

Hope this helps.

I am very happy with the low iso noise on this camera.

Thank for posting, but the images aren't working for me. I get the dreaded red X.

I went from xt to 30d. Aside from noise, I just get more images in focus at my target than xt. I do live gig shooting with no flash so with xt it was hit and miss. 30d is a huge improvement. I assume 40d will be even more

Not to sure about that, though one thing between the 30D and 40D for live gigs (no Flash) is the ability to lock focus very quick, even if you use manual, the VF is again quite improved for brightness.
I think most say the ISO noise on a 30D/40D is pretty well the same, but the AF is a different matter that is well and truly improved
Very pleased with mine still

well from the sounds of it, I'll be happy.
some of my main reasons behind it were...

Basic Ergonomics of the camera, The XT even in my hands (i'm 5''6) feels too small, and cramps my fingers. I held a friends 30D and fell in love.
PC Sync connection
Better Low light AF
The Viewfinder was another HUGE one...the XT was way too small.
I've made lots of use of my XT's Burst modes, to warrent the welcome for the 6FPS over the 3FPS.

I could get all that out of the 30D...but I'm not going used..and store prices are a lowly 100-200 difference.
