ISO3200? How does it look? I'm considering these cameras as my next upgrade, and sometimes(very rarely) I might have to use this function.

Anyone have any side by side pictures? I searched and didn't find much.

i've owned both cameras as well as the 5d and i've only shot the latter a couple of times @ iso 3200.

sorry, i just don't go there :D.

I was on a boat trip in good light, but then went through a very dark natural arch, which required bumping my 30D up to ISO3200 and a pretty slow shutter. I'm still satisfied with the result though:

I have read a few reviews lately on cameras and unless you want to invest in a 5d or better you would be best off with a 20d or 30d. Both are the same noise wise since both use same sensor.

I have the 20D. I have shot at iso 3200. If you don't underexpose and use noise removal software such as neat image, they are usable as small prints.

Everything in this gallery (external link) is shot on a 20D at 3200. It's not --great-- but it's good for up to say, 8x10 prints and it's fantastic for use in a newspaper.

Haven't used it quite enough, but here is a shot, while finding out way back to our hotel onboard a taxi, in Havana, Cuba. (no editing done)

Chris, that's a really hard question to answer.

First, a caveat about the two images posted above. Downsized images are absolutely worthless for evaluating noise. Downsizing is a wonderful noise killer.

Some people will tell you that these cameras produce awesome images at 3200. Others will tell you they're unusable. It all depends on your output and your expectations.

I shoot at 3200 quite a bit in the theatre. Straight from the camera and viewed at 100% on your monitor the noise is obvious. With the right workflow, including a good piece of software like Noise Ninja, and downsized to 1800x1200, they look amazingly clean. You can make excellent 4x6 or 5x7 prints from that many pixels.

I have made plenty of 8x10 prints and a few as large as 20 x 30. All the customer said was "wow."

Well, I have a 20d, but I must be doing something wrong...cuz I can shoot at 1600 & would never dream of blowing anything up past an 8x10. I did a wedding one time on 1600 by mistake, & luckily I cleaned up the 8x10s enough to pass them off as presentable, but I'll never do that again!! I can't even imagine what these photos would have looked like at 3200!! I know I would have never been able to use them. I was using the kit lens, so maybe that made some of the noise problems, but never again.

I think it's still very useable, but I try not to go past 1600, here are a few shots at 1600 (click link below pic for higher res)
