If you were to walk into B&H (external link) with a conditional blank check, what six (or less) lenses would you buy and why?

The condition is simply no single lens over $4,000 based on B&H pricing for USA sourced lenses (if buying Canon).

35L, 85L, 70-200 2.8IS, 24L, 50L---Wedding business...

Maybe the TS-E 24L for landscapes...

But, I already own 16 lenses so that check would be used for a trip to Antarctica or ANWR... :)

EF 24-70L= Perfect walkaround
EF 70-200 2.8L IS= Perfect compliment to the 'Brick' and a fantastic tele
EF 50L= A solid prime.

Literally all I need for what I shoot. I have the 50 1.4 as of today and really dont see me getting the L version...but hell...if its free...and in the spirit of the thread......why not right?

Canon 16-35L 2.8
Canon 24-70L 2.8
Canon 70-200L 2.8 IS
Canon 100-400L IS
Canon 135L 2.0
and either the Canon 50 1.4, or the 85 1.8 or 85L 1.2

I have all these except the 85L 1.2. They are all great and there is nothing you can't cover with those lenses except for maybe wildlife (birds) and extreme macro photography.

These meet all my needs
24 1.4L For wide shots that the 35 just can't get
35 1.4L The one lens I really could if pressed to shoot almost everything with
85 1.2L Portraits and low light candids where you need a little reach

All three of these lenses perform OUTSTANDING in low light actually all situations and I have found over the years these are the focal lengths I use for the type of work I do.

I would say unless you shoot sports or wild life these would work for you to.
I don't need anything else.

My needs? Sure.

24-70L
70-200 2.8L IS
35L
85L
135L

I might trade the 70-200L IS for a 300 2.8L IS ($3,999- still under budget ;-)a )

I have virtually everything I need in glass with just three lenses (for my 20D):

16-35 f/2.8L
24-70 f/2.8L
70-200 f/2.8L IS

In the future I might look at a couple of fast primes, depending on the need. For now I'm never looking for something I don't have.
