Like the Canon rep said, the technology in the current 5D is based off the 1Ds series that preceded it. Not new technology, not better, just packaged by unit, per unit to be more in line with streamlined manufacturing processes to deliver affordable product.

Everything you see in the new cameras will be in the 5D. It will be full frame, it will have a similar menu to the 40D. It will have 14bit. It will have live view. It will have upgraded circuitry to 1series and 40D specs. You can easily build it in your head. The only variable that is on the fence is the max ISO. I tend to think it will max at 3200 like the 1Ds does. If you follow the usual incremental stages, it should have high 14s for mp. Maybe 15.

It won't make coffee, it won't have 22mp, it won't have ISO 12 million, no gps and no, it won't have superior IQ to the current 1 series cameras beacuse it came out last. It came out last so you can afford it.

If you want a camera, buy it. If you want latest tech, buy now. Decide what is a want and what is a need though...

If you never print large (above 8x10), all the current cameras are FAR MORE than you need.

people will always try to stop you doing the right thing if it is unconventional
Full frame and some primes.

I agree with pretty much everything you say except for the print size. In the digital age, I don't believe many people print their images. I figure most people view most of their prints on their computer screens. In the 35mm film days, I had to print all my photos. Today, I only print the ones I love and when I do print, I print 12x18. When I do view my shots, I do so on a huge LCD monitor and frequently look at them at 100%. I know pixel peeping is "geeky", but I bet lots of people do it. :p

One thing I am really hoping for on the new 5D is 5fps.

If the new 5D was out now, I'd get one today. As it stands, I was starting to look at the 1D Mark III...until the 40D came out...what a bargain, IMO.
