JackProton Goldmember 2,348 posts Joined Feb 2007 More info | Sep 12, 2007 20:59 | #4 A red intensifier/enhancing filter is made of special didymium glass which absorbs a narrow band of the light spectrum in the yellow range. It is not really the same as a typical warming filter but has the effect of making warm colors appear more red by removing some of the yellow (it also works on greens) while leaving other colors nearly unaffected. The yellow light it absorbs also happens to correspond to the light produced by low-pressure sodium lights (it is also useful to glass blowers for this reason I believe) and a smaller part of the mercury light spectrum so it can be sometimes used to lower the intensity of outdoor lighting in night scenes depending on the light sources.
