for many this isn't a real test but this is how i do it. i took my 5d and 30d to the zoo and used them both with the 100-400L.

the first 15 pictures are with the 5d and the rest are with the 30d. i took more with the 30d because i just gotten the camera (and the lens).

every picture is probably cropped and most with the 5d (except birds) are cropped more than the ones taken with the 30d.

Nice collection of shots. I like your zoo better than mine. The 30D takes excellent shots. But there's just something about a shot from a 5D.

And your conclusion? I think all your shots are fantastic. Proving my point....if everyone would take more photos and stop trying to justify their purchases, this would be a happier place

thank you :D......... the 5d photos look better to my eyes but if i need more reach the 30d can be a better choice. i am very happy with both cameras but given my druthers i will grab the 5d first.

i was afraid that my love for the 5d would have me using that camera even when the cropper was better choice but after a 3-day weekend in monterey i found that i used both cameras and since i shot a lot of wildlife and a triathlon i actually used the 30d more and got great results.

justifying purchases will always be a part of equipment forums. hell i might have even done it a time or two :D!

there are certain members that love every bit of equipment they buy -- at first -- and the next thing you know it's listed on the sales forum...that just cracks me up but it's to be expected.....

and then they buy that same piece of gear again or sell all their equipment one day and buy nikon gear.

i think the latter will be the case real soon ;)!

I'd probably stop shopping for new gear if I had a 1Ds MKIII a 1D mkIII a 40D and a 5D and roughly ever L that has ever been concieved.

Still some of the greatest pictures i've seen came from 10D and 30D (of course the 5D ) but just the composition and look of the picture I didn't peak at pixel and noise I just enjoyed the picture and wanted to buy it lol

Capture the moment that took your breath away. Savor each one and look for more to come!

Awesome shots Ed!

thanx folks....not bad results for 3 hours at the zoo. and it was a very atypical summer day -- it was the day after labor day and the SF zoo was empty and it was overcast all day.

so i tested my "safari kit' and i am pleased with the results :D!

Nice shots Ed.

I remember reading that you say that you only use centre point focus and then crop images to size and for composition.

It works well from what I can see...
