so i bought a 24-70L-- what a lens!

here is a shot i took with it at a golf match today. its not tak sharp or anything, but thats because i had the camera above my head....i am gonna give it a good workout tomorrow at a volleyball match.

I think that golf, more so than many other sports, almost demands to be shot with long lenses (300mm+), but I am interested to see what sorts of shots you'll be able to get with it at a volleyball match. For most, the 85mm f/1.8 is unbeatable for volleyball, but I think you may be onto something with the zoom if you have the light to use f/2.8 effectively.

After adding an 85 1.8 to my lens collection the 24-70 has not seen a sporting event except for use on a second body to go along with the 400 at a football (US) game. I love the 24-70 but the 85 1.8 is just awsome. It can be a bit frustrating due to the very shallow DOF but the keepers . . . wow!!

I also do about 95% of my golf shooting with the 400. It is nice to be back from the action a bit as the competitors don't seem to even notice me. Considering I weigh about 300 lbs and am toting around that 400 2.8, being unnoticed is pretty challenging.
