All images: Xti + MPE-65mm macro lens (at 1x) + MT-24EX macro flash.

Really Right Stuff flash bracket with an extender on the B flash positioned to the right. The A flash head is at the top of the lens with an extender and pointed directly at the dragonfly but in this case it's lighting the critter from the back (notice the light coming through the far wing. Slow flash cycle time, so the duration was long. 1x.

Similar to this, but with an additional extender:

For the single extender shots the top flash was mounted directly to the RRS bracket and the lower flash was on the extender. More details here. (external link)

Excellent job on the pictures. Is there a trick to getting your subjects to sit still?

This time of year there are literally hundreds of violet darters at the lake, so finding one that's occupied (and not paying attention to me) isn't too difficult. I scared this one off a couple of times, but every time he took off I waited for him to come back and I tried again. Patience...

Thanks! I like the lack of reflections on the leading wing.

The detail in #1 is fantastic. That lighting set up is pretty good.

Thanks for sharing.
