1D Mk III manufacturing date ...

According to a post published in this german forum, its possible to know where was manufactured your MkIII and when:

Take out the battery and look at the bottom, you will be able to see a set of number & letters; like 0V0603. It means:

1st- Manufacturing place:

U = Utsunomiya, Japan
F = Fukushima, Japan
O = Oita, Japan

2nd - Manufacturing year:

V = 2007, 1981
W = 2008, 1982
X = 2009, 1983

3th-4th - Manufacturing month

01 - January till 12 December

LAst two digits: No known meaning yet or no relevant ...

Last two digits probably day (01-31), no?

Nope, over Europe looks like 95% or almost all are coming from Oita.

Which factory supplies US and Canada then? It seems that most people with complaints are in those countries, or is it just me?

Mine (one of the first in the UK) is an 'O', FWIW.

Far as I know all 1D3's came/come from OITA...... (Final Assembly)
The question is did/are all the sensors made in the same factory or is there more than one source ??

I'm sure Canon have been down this avenue of investigation already.

Oita JULY '07!

07 means July. Japan doesn't use the same date code type as in the US. And did you not look at the first thread?
