ooc, for those of you with the "O" in the first number, is it nice and thick all the way around or? I just looked at mine again, and it looks like an upside down greek "omega" minus the side wings...in other words there's only a very tiny space breaking the top. (at first I thought it was an O then a U...LOL...I'm so confused)

that's close enough to mine. Guess I'll change it to an O then. Thanks Kenny.

Oita JULY '07!

07 means July. Japan doesn't use the same date code type as in the US. And did you not look at the first thread?

no but thanks

I received my eos 1d mk3 during the last week of Sept. Purchased from B&H and so far all is fine..

Serial # 5362xx with ov0904

Just as all the other members of this forum, I keep a close eye on all info from IR / RG / CANON USA..

I think that Canon should exchange a defective camera for a new production model at their expense if the true problem is a combination of a faulty sub-mirror part +/o adjustment..Canon has known for at least 4 months that their flagship camera was not performing as described..At least Canon should have shut down their production line until they admitted their problem and came up with a correction/solution..Now a day the promise of the manufacture should be worth at least what their product is worth = $ 4500.00..

Their hestitation on admitting a problem, ignoring the importance of their customers opinions and continuing to manfacture the same error month after month would seem irresponsable to me and I think to alot of my fellow photo enthusiats would agree..I am not a pro, I do like and appreciate fine instruments that are at the top of their field..But I do not like to see anyone act so boldenly as to continue to do the same thing over and over again expecting to see a different result..I think they call that insanity.

The difference here compared to other products with problems i.e. cars, is that CANON JAPAN continued to manufacture defective cameras with the idea that the camera is so complicated everyone is incapable of understanding how to use it and hoping that the public in general would be too complacent too complain..It is a good thing that some peoples lives did not depend on it..Pros living off of their cameras however do depend on it for their work and families.

I wish to say that I am afraid of a issue with my camera down the road from now. To pay $ 4500.00 for a camera is alot of money for anyone- pro or amateur and the consumer should always be of getting less for their money then what was originally promised. Repairing a defective item still is not the best way for CANON especially a hardware issue that they have not admitted.

Therefore, I want CANON to exchange any defective camera for a new production camera..If Canon was sure that this was the only problem they possible would do It ..But if there are other possible problems that they " CANON " know about they surely would not do it because they would have to give out new cameras ad infinatum..

Sorry for the long explain but I hate to invest in junk and just because It goes 10fps who am I going to impress if it can not perform at advertised.

You would of known about the "problem" way before you bought one!.

So my question to you is WHY did you buy one in the last week of september ?, knowing all the issues. Then come on here and call it JUNK

Well it's not as simple as that. For now, Canon officially didn't say yet (wait till next week ;)), they have problem. Officially it's still just operators error. We had CPS meeting last week, and even there, yes that's only 8 days ago, they officially still stated it's operator's error, not camera fault. And the way they will be "solving" this problem is another issue, which is everything but proper for pro world where our survival depends on these tools. But wait till you will see yourself.
Another issue is their attitude towards their pro users. For half a year they didn't admit they have problem. For half of year, they were blaming us, we all of a sudden don't know how to shoot anymore. For half a year they were knowingly producing faulty cameras and selling them to people, whos life depends on this. No matter how this sound, but if I don't produce proper quality, and I do this day in and day out, I lose my job. Ok that's reason why, if I have chance, I always wait for a bit, before jumping to new one, and luckily I had this chance, and I'm still happy user of old but working 1dmk2 :)
PS: Every single camera is defect... but for now this is just unofficial statement.

especially for Allan I would ask you to read my first statement saying that the camera if fine and I do not have any complaints now..I refer to" junk "as the possiblity that the camera may have a serious defect now which I am not capable of determining.

The Basic issue is that no matter how CANON handles this mess, their intregity will be and should be suspect. It is difficult to remain the top dog forever..
In the future you should be respectful of others, you may not agree, but do not attack .
