I have just come into some money and i'm gonna blow it all on camera equipment(much to her objection) and i want to go full frame as it would suit me better for the type of photography i do.
Now in the UK i an get a 5D with the 24-105L for £2000 OR i have found somewhere that is selling a mint 1dsmk2 for £2800. Do i go for the 5D combo and a nice bit of glass or pull the trigger on the 1dsmk2??
whats the difference in IQ between them and what would you guys suggest i do???

I would get the 5D unless you think you need the 4 extra MP and 45 focus points. New glass is always nice.

And don't forget weather seal on the 1D as a consideration and if you do lower light work, the f/8 retention of AF in the 1D is also a strong plus. If those are less important I would get the 5D and glass.

1DsII. Better focus, nicer body and all the usual arguments. Besides, you've already got a couple of L's to use with it so you're not entirely lacking in that area either.

I don't see too many people selling their 1Ds Mk.II to buy a 5d.

4mp is ok, but it's the AF that really makes the deal. People that tell you the 5D IQ is better can't back it up with any hard evidence. The 5D is just 6 months newer (release dates) and does not contain any newer technology than the 5D. The sensor has larger photosites yes, but with that logic the 1Ds Mk.I should kill the 5D.

1Ds. 5D is sorta long in the tooth for the price in the UK.

people will always try to stop you doing the right thing if it is unconventional
Full frame and some primes.

I vote 5D so that you can get some faster glass.....FF is really advantageous in low light: which does better with 2.8 zooms and a 1.4 50mm.
