So yesterday I went out to do a little deer shooting, with a Canon 70-300 not a Winchester M70, ;). Well anyway, I forgot to put on the mosquito repellant and before I got a ¼ mile into the woods I was so swarmed that I had to return to shower in Deep Woods Off. Returning to the woods, it didn’t seem to help at all. I was still getting sucked dry. This is the first time the DWO has failed me so miserably. Now there are way more mosquitoes than I have ever seen before due to all the rain pretty much all summer long, but heck, I thought they hated this stuff. So, what do all you outdoors shooters use for mosquito control? Anything more powerful than DWO?

Sounds like the best thing to bring would be YOU. That way they'll all be sucking you dry and leaving me alone.

Now what did I do to you guys that you are so quick to offer me up as mosquito bait. :( Seriously, I have never seen them as aggressive and numerous as they are right now. I always thought Deep woods OFF was the strongest stuff out there but it seems pretty worthless right now. Either that or i have discovered a species that feed off of DWO,

I used to have some great 100% DEET stuff that worked great for me in Alaska -- I'd tell you the exact name, but it ate all the markings off the plastic bottle it was in. Probably not the best for use when you're packing a camera. ;)

Have you tried anything featuring permethrin? I'm not sure what's in DWO, but that's supposed to be the latest and greatest bug repellent. You can try searching at www.rei.com (external link) for a variety of options.

Seems we might be seeing a surge in DEET resistant skeeters.

So, what your saying is that if you don't want to bleed to death via mosquitoes, then you can crap yourself to death instead?

What a marvelous choice!

i spend all my weekends in the woods shooting and what i found works best for me is DWO but also wearing long sleeves shirt and pants and just spray the crap on my face and hands. sometimes i even use the stronger stuff that has serious DEET action in it (don't have the name in front of me) but 99% of the time, long sleeves and DWO do a great job..

Oh boy, I love to run in the woods, but the runs in the woods is about as uncomfortable as it gets. Funny how the addition of one "s" can change ones day.;)

There is bug repellent clothing out at your local camping store. I've seen it at REI.
