Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG APO Macro Question...

Mornin',

First of all, I'm completely new to all this so please bear with me! I just bought the above Sigma lens and have a question about the "macro" function.

When I extend the lens to anywhere from 200mm-300mm and throw the switch, no matter how much I try, I can never seen to get the lens to focus properly.

Is there a "trick" to macro photography? Settings on my Rebel XT? Distance away from the subject?

I would appreciate any help!

Kind regards,

Piet

I have this lens and Macro seems to work fine for me, although I don't really use it much anymore. How far away are you? You'd need to be a few feet away.

What distance are you away from the subject? The lens will never focus if you are only inches away from subject. I don't have the exact minimum focus distance in front of me, but in my experience it seems like about a foot or two at least...

This is from the Sigma website... "It also has a switch that converts the lens to macro photography at focal lengths between 200mm and 300mm with a minimum focusing distance of 95cm (37.4 inches). In normal mode the minimum focusing distance is 150cm (59.1 inches) at all zoom settings."

Thanks Jaws and Tiger, that is exactly what I was needing. Guess I was a little too close for comfort...
