First effort at 1:1 macro

This is my first post in this section.

I just took delivery of a EF 100mm 2.8 and had a quick scan around the garden. I took a few images and the best of the bunch is the one below. Composition is not too good - I lost the front legs out of frame. I need to watch the effect on framing when focusing by rocking backward and forward.

Man I wish my first macro shot was half as good -well done!!

The only advice I have for you is to get down on the critter's level -shoot more from the side than from the top...

Brilliant first attempt!! I agree with Dalantech, might be a good idea to try to get down to the spiders level to get a more frontal pic. My advice...keep posting and getting comments!! A great way to learn the tricks of the trade, but I am sure your will develope your own style after a while.

Thank you all for the replies and the tips.

More practice and a bit more thought about composition sounds like the order of the day. I'll post some more when I get a chance to get out in the garden again.

Congrats on the lens, that's a pretty damn well good first attempt btw I agree with John about getting down lower, or from the side etc.
