any more opinions? FF seems the way to go. If i went into a shop and money was no object SURELY the 1DS III would be the camera to get? You see i shoot lots of wildlife even getting pics into calenders now and newsletters but for some reason im stuck between choosing. FF seems comparable to the old film slr'S (which i wlways used). I know the crop is there but you can crop with the 1DS. So with wildlife and animal portraits and a few landscapes what would be the favourable path to take? (its a loota money so a mistake in purchase would hurt)

Though we have no idea how good the 1ds mk 3 is, but lets assume it will take the best image of all Canon Cameras, but at 5 FPS would a sports journal be happy with that? I think some sports pro photographers might be.
Depends on the sport I guess, Football, etc big pitches the 1-3 crop will help on the lenses needed I guess

Would I be correct in assuming the the Noise at High ISO is about same on both cameras?

The 1D Mk.II (yes #2) is more camera than %95 of the people here need.

I do. I shot with it this week. You can see a ISO 1600 shot from it on my blog. Awesome camera. But it only goes to ISO 3200 and the 1D Mk.III goes to 6400. So you can't compare, but to 1600 ISO would be a good comparison.

i already said 1DmkIII for wildlife. i shoot birds and wildlife about 99% of the time and the FPS and crop are important.

1d Mk.III and I'd buy a Sigma 12-24 for wide angle landscape.

Cosworth, is there a difference in IQ at ISO 1600 between the 1D mark III and the 1Ds mark III. A noticeable difference?

Looked good to me. I just picked it up hand held and fired away. I didn't take much care in minimizing noise with careful exposure etc. Butt-o-meter? Looks the same to me.

how big do you plan on printing that you find 10MP to be lacking? don't forget that you are going to need tons of storage for the 1DsmkIII because the files are going to be HUGE!!

I'm still pretty happy with my 20D - but I'm starting to get a megapixel complex....

I always thought I'd jump at the 40D - I really like the look of it, but can't justify the upgrade. And i never thought 8 MP was particularly lacking either....

I think if you have to ask which one of the 1d's is better for you your not ready for a 1 series camera look at the 40d
