how big do you plan on printing that you find 10MP to be lacking? don't forget that you are going to need tons of storage for the 1DsmkIII because the files are going to be HUGE!!

pretty sure that file sizes jpg are based on O( N*log(N)) rather than N^2, so 1dsmkiii files will likely be only partially larger than 1dmkiii (maybe 6mb instead of 4) and raw files are linear with respect to MP given the same bit depth, so it'll be just about twice the size.... 25mb raw is nothing to laugh at, but it's not the end of the world either (but you will need cards and hdd space to make up for it)

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

Sorry Lionel, but you couldn't be farther off... http://www.jasonhollister.com/images/_N4A9788.JPG (external link) --> more than 12MB for a 1Ds JPG. Also, using terminology having to do with time complexities of algorithms doesn't quite work for growth of file size. However, just saying that file size correlates to n * log(n) when n is the number of megapixels could make sense (but just isn't true in this case).

I DONT think crop size comes into this as a croped 1dsmk3 file will be as big/bigger then the 1.3 mk3 .
Rob.

that is true but if he does mostly wildlife he will be cropping it most of the time anyway so why even pay for the 21MP?

having enough storage is a problem even when you are using 8MP (HD space mostly) so i think that storage for files from the 1DsmkIII would be even worse. btw, i only shoot RAW which might explain why i am a bit worried about storage. double the file size means that you will need double the hard drive space and i already have 5 hard drives...

buy 1Ds MKIII and end this debating or discussion.
If you love the camera you will do fine with it, whether it is 5fps or 10, or 10MP or 21 you should know how to deal with it, i saw many many photos of birds or wildlife taken by 1DsMKII itself so i am sure 1DsMKIII will do better job, and then for something else like portraits and landscapes you can't be beaten using 1Ds MKIII.

Good luck.
