Not that we really need another opinon..

My plan was sell 5D b/c the market is going to bottom out soon when the 5DmkII comes out. The 40D good camera, but I couldn't stand the 1.6 factor and small viewfinder. I didn't like them enough to know immediately to sell it. It is a machine gun in the FPS department. If I shot sports I would have thought long and hard. But Mountains and streams don't move too much.
So for my shooting it wasn't needed. When my kids start playing sports that might be a diff story. The AF is awesome. I think the MKII 5d will be out
Q1 of 08.

1DsmkIII is too much camera for me. The 5DmkII should be perfect, until the 5DMkIII comes out.

I don't get this. Why do people sell to get money out of equipment? Do you sell your 2007 car before the 2008's come out?

Go ahead and sell your 5D now. You'll be without a camera for at least 6 months. And that's if the 5D2 comes out next spring. If it doesn't come out in spring, you'd be without a camera for 12 months if the 5D2 comes out fall 2008.

I would rather have a great camera and take pictures with it than sell it and have some money in my hand, but no camera.

5D shooter here...

Since you have a 40D (in your sig) and you didn't say if/why you really do/don't need a 5D, sell it now and bank the money. It's bigger, heavier, and slower than your 40D and if you don't need what it does deliver, it's probably just collecting dust anyway.

Personally, I need the highest resolution/IQ I can afford. The 5D was the best I could get at the time (before the 40D's release) and it's still superior to the 40D in many ways, at least for my purposes.

And all this from a guy who stayed with a 1st gen Digital Rebel from it's release until July '07. So I don't plan to part w/ my 5D anytime soon. (I do hope to get progressively better glass though...)

Sure if you dont need the 5D, sell it, but I bet you will miss it after a while, I know I would, the 40D is ideal for wildlife with its faster burst rate, some say its better than the 5D because it has all these extra features & is now weatherproof, but from what ive seen its only got sealing on the CF card & battery doors :p

Lets not get into the whole 5D vs 40D debate again, if you specialize then the 5D is unbeatable, if you plan to do a bit of everything, the 40D is probably the best choice, the 5D is aimed at a niche market, mainly professionals using them for weddings etc, the resolution, low noise & DOF is superb.
