Bill -

How do you get it to go straight to the page for each couple? I have SmugMug, but right now, I can only get it to go to the main page, then the bride and groom select the gallery for their pictures.

I would also like to know where you got that background pic. It looks great.

Thanks.

Just what tnicol said above. Just link to the URL of the actual page. The background was just one of the smugmug offered backgrounds. It used to be called "wedding," but I think they changed the name of it.

oh. as much as I plan to sell, i think i will stick with the place i am already using. costs more per year but i keep 100 percent and money from sales goes str8 to my paypal every single time - no waiting months to get paid either.

Could I ask what service you are using? Sounds tempting, or at least worth looking into :D

can you add a music slideshow? and do you have to do most of the work yourself or are there awesome templates and it does most of the work for you? Final question - do you get to keep 100 percent of your sales?

I've never tried adding a music slideshow, but you can certainly add a slideshow. I have one on my home page at www.tomnicolphotography.com (external link) you can look at. The code for this is readily available on the smugmug forum (kind of like this one, but related only to smugmug stuff). I assume you can add music, but am not sure. Programming is largely on your own, but there's a lot of support on the same forum. If you're wondering how to do something, there's almost surely someone who's wondered it before and found an answer. As with the slideshow there are pieces of code freely available. Lastly, the profit is up to you. You set your own price for each size and finish of print so you determine the percentage. For example, say a 5"x7" lustre finish print is priced by smugmug at $1.25 and you set the price on your pro site at $5.00, then your profit is 75%. If you set it at $10.00, then it's 87%...like that.

FWIW ---I have been using smugmug for two years and find it a good place. It is a bit more difficult to work with and expand. It offers a lot of expansion but the difficult part is figuring it out. The tech support people have been great in my expereince.

I did the 10 day free trial first. They don't even ask for a credit card. They have awesome, easy to use templates, an easy to use interface. Set up wizards and the whole 9 which is something I needed. You can set up a shopping cart that people can add photos to and then they check out and pay through your paypal account. I know paypal charges a small fee but just add that to the cost of your photos and no worries.

You can't have a music slideshow but every gallery you add has the option to play a slideshow. You choose your own colors, etc.

All the photos are right click disabled so no need to put a watermark on them to prevent people from taking them or anything too so it's pretty cool. Try the free trial and see if you like it.

I have been with smugmug for only a few months and absolutely love it. It is too costly for me to allow my clients to use credit cards at the studio, so when they order through smug mug they can (which is awesome) I believe major credit card companies take some of your profits as well when you use the machines in your office. either way it's the cost of doing business and being able to provide options.

Just thought I would through my option in there. I have never looked into smugmug so I don't know how it compares. I use a company called phanfare. They are somewhat new so they are very helpful. I pay less than 50 a year. There is no shopping cart. My clients email me with their order. They do templates and slidshows with music.

Karena - I would love to see your website. Do you mind sharing?

We actually have 3 account levels. www.smugmug.com/price (external link) Standard/Power/Pro ($40/$60/$150 per year respectively)

If you buy the Standard or the Power account level, you can sell photos BUT you can not set your own print & gift prices to make commissions on each sale.

You can only do that with our Pro account. www.smugmug.com/pro (external link)

If you want to get a 50% discount off your first year, enter the word: yahoo in the coupon code when signing up for your free trial :)

Markham

Will this work for existing users who want to upgrade to power or pro level?

Yes, you can upgrade from any lower level to a higher one any time, keeping your existing url.

I'm not sure about that, but a quick email to smugmug should answer it. They're very responsive in my experience.

Would you mind sharing your website with them?

I would like to have my photos hosted, but I want to control the sale of them. How do people contact you for the purchase? If I wanted these companies to make money off me, then I would hae contracted to be a photographer for them and not for myself. I don't wish for them to make money off of me for doing nothing, but hosing my photos.

Also, can I post the photos hosted on ifp3.com on this and/or other sites? I don't want a link to the photos. I want the people to see the photos on this and other sites, not to go to a link.

If a client orders photos from smugmug, do they do fulfillment? Meaning, do they send the photos directly to the client?

I was contacted by ifp3.com in reply to my request for information about getting a url address for each photo hosted on thier site and this is their reply:

Michael,

Your site is Flash and the pages and images have no URLs to link to.

ifp3 support

My thoughts about the e-mail responce:

My understanding is this means you can not post your photo hosted on ipf3, on any other website/forum/e-mail.

Is there a site, which I can host my photo's on so I can control the sale/price of my photos and also allow me to post a copy of the photo using a URL address? This way I can show people what I would have for sale, or even to post a photo on here.

Mike
