The BG-E2 uses a simple internal gearing to connect the "wheel" with the 1/4"-20 screw mount - it might be that the gears are stripped or broken and have disengaged the wheel from the screw.

Hate to say it, but it looks like you're screwed... nevermind the pun ;-)a

You can send it to Canon and they can get it off. They'll charge the heck out of you for it of course, but at least you'll be able to get it off.

Personally, I never take the grips off my cameras nor do I see a need to. If you are worried about phantom power, just take out the batteries.

You WILL need to take it off some day to replace the disc-shaped battery in the camera. It would be best to get it off now and replace the grip with one that is not broken.

I suspect that to remove the grip, it will have to be "forcibly disassembled" - probably with a saw.

Just wondering, is the BG a Canon brand?

It may be possible to pull down or to push up on the grip while turning the knob to remove it. That can make the gears mesh enough to get it off.

Hi thanks for your replies, Forgot about the disk battery and yes a saw may be the only way to get it off I fear too. Still love the camera may be I'll sell it and get a better one sounds good to me anyway. A 40D sounds like a plan.

Are they much better?
