Well, I seem to have somehow gotten a tiny (1/2 mm or so) scratch or more like crack in the LCD cover on my MkIII. At least it seems to be on the cover.

My question is, is this something I can replace? Seems I've read of others replacing this cover once it gets scratched up, etc. Is this some I can/should attempt or should I just bite the bullet and send it in and pay for having it done if need be. Another option is to just live with it, as it is only noticeable at certain angles when viewing the display.

Jeez Kenny, you don't seem to be having an awful lot of luck with your Mark III do you?

:) Well given that fact that it won't focus maybe I shouldn't even be concerned with the LCD screen. :)

Agree with the "character" assessment and it really is not that noticeable. I thought it was a smudge or tiny scratch at first.

Its a bit like the man who complains to his doctor that his arm hurts, so the doctor stamps on his foot.
At least it takes your mind of the focusing :D

Canon can replace the plastic LCD cover - can't say whether it will be under warranty or not, but it's a relatively easy thing for them to fix..

Is my understanding that you can order a replacement screen for the LCD rather cheap, like under $20 I believe. Its nothing more than just a protection screen over the LCD.

I got a small scratch on my 30D screen last year hiking in Yosemite but it doesn't bother me too much so I just don't worry about it.

:) Not at all. I've got $5000 invested in this body and I do my best to treat it as such. I think it much have hit my belt buckle or binoculars or 20D as I was out and about. Ya gotta use these things you know. :)

How did you do that Kenny? If it's under warranty, isn't it covered?

You either paid more than most or bought some accessories.

He may be talking with tax and shipping. I know mine was slightly over 4800 when tax is factored in.

It's called Hiroshima's revenge, sort of like motorcycles. You've bashed Canon so long and hard in that other thread, your camera just said: F*&^% it and cracked. ;)

Uh oh, how are you going to judge just how out of focus your images are?
