I think they're great, especially when using FTM with USM lenses, as the split prism allows you to easily and accurately touch up the focus. Where they are problemetic is in low light situations where the prism can actually blackout if theres not much light. Mark

Sep 14, 2007 11:53 | #6 Thanks again. I have used the type you are using many times over many years with several different formats. The screen I'm looking (and wondering about) is-- http://www.adorama.com …searchinfo=ec-l&item_no=1

Mark_Cohran Cream of the Crop More info | Sep 14, 2007 11:55 | #7 Looks like the difference between the Ec-L and the Ec-B (the type I use) is the Ec-B has only a horizontal split, wherease the Ec-L has both a horizontal and vertical split. Seems like the Ec-L would be more versatile (but maybe more susceptible to the "black-out" phenomena?) Mark

Sep 14, 2007 12:44 | #8 Yeah, my thinking exactly. That's why I would like to hear from someone that has used one. My favorite screen of all time was a Brightscreen 20/20 I used in one of my Mamiya RB67's. It was a grid with a horizontal split rangefinder (loved that camera, loved that screen). Of course that camera didn't have metering so I didn't worry about affecting the meter. I have tried to inquire at Brightscreen about the affect, if any, with the 1D3 or 1D2n. The only reply I find is that, according to them, most screens used on most digital cameras have no affect. I just don't want to pop $240 in a screen only to find out it screws up the metering.
