Just was on B&H's site and they no longer have the regular BG-E2 grip for the 20/30/40D owners. Does this mean if you get a newer 20/30/40D your going to have to get the new bg-e2n which costs $250?

Well there's no sense manufacturing it if the cameras it was designed for are discontinued...

Kinda like the BG-ED3 and others.

eBay's almost always got plenty. Keep an eye out here and on fredmiranda.com too. I picked up my BG-ED3 for $75 all in right here.

The cost about $170. Unfortunately, I got a bg-e2n and on the quality and design, Canon dropped the ball. The rebel xt grip was well built and designed.

I love my xt grip. It definitely is solid. I haven't held a bg-e2 yet. I know the camera store thats local to me said they had some bg-e2's in stock last weekend, but who knows how many will be left when they get the next shipment of 40ds.
