I am going to upgrade from a 1D to the 40D. Is there a large chance that the 40D I receive choose will have AF issues like the M3?

The 40D maybe your answer.

I'll take a lesser-performing piece of hardware (speaking in general) that's dead rock solid reliable over the latest and greatest. I agree completely with the reliability statement! As far as the technology, I would assume/hope that Canon research/development works on the base technologies independent of any product offering and when the technology is ready it is incorporated into particular products as part of that individual product's development. KAC TBH if you sold your mark 3, bought a 40D ,,,, waited a while, see if mark 3 gets sorted, get another one if you really need the speed again and low noose ISO ETC, the 40D is so good you will not lose a lot of money on it, be plenty of buyers looking for a slightly cheaper one. also I think you would be pleasantly surprised how good the 40D is for what it cost Photographic Images on Brett Butler

The 5D is incredible in it's own way with full frame and it's resolution so it's not going anywhere. Kenny A. Chaffin

It appears to be focusing the right target, but the results are fairly soft. I still haven't given it a fair shake yet. I tried last week, but something came up every day. I shot some flying black tailed kites today. I expected them to be stellar, but was less than pleased when I uploaded them. Doubleshot Photography

I shot some flying black tailed kites today. I expected them to be stellar, but was less than pleased when I uploaded them. My issues have mainly been when I am using my 300 f/4 IS. I haven't noticed the same w/ other lenses. This lens on my XTi is superb, so I can rule out the lens. When using the 300 for macro or other close (less than 30' or so) shots, they look perfect. It is mainly when shooting wildlife that I have noticed it. I am still just writing it off as user error. If I'm still having problems in a week, then I'll get worried about it. Hmmmm. I want to hear more, please do keep me/us posted. Kenny A. Chaffin
