next time when you are in the mood to shoot something like that then. just remember. that when you are taking a picture, make sure it looks good in your view finder before you take the picture. take some time, and take a few pictures of what are looking at. take your time with your shots, and make sure that you compose them well.

He's saying that the moderators in the wedding forums are much more sensitive and are less tolerant of direct criticism. I say that people don't learn anything from generic comments and niceties — unless it's merited. In this case, there was little to say, I'm afraid. And the fact that the OP has yet to respond, makes me feel as if all of this was a big waste of time.

well no. It's not a big deal. Regulars at the wedding forum got a reprimand from a POTN moderator for being too blunt when giving advice to new users. Many disagreed with the moderator, as it was like badmouthing the wedding forum (for not being polite). I see that honest and blunt comments are given in every forum, your comments about this picture are an example, that's why I made that remark. Like I said, no big deal, I just think it wasn't fair for the wedding forum regulars to get that reprimand.

I understand it didn't make much sense for many of you since you don't visit the WF, sorry about that.

But again, I agree with you, and I would hate to see a forum turn to "your picture is great" kind of thing. Honest critiques is what we should look for if we want to improve.

Yosef, you have some potentially great material to work with. if you don't mind can i give you some advice?

-i can tell that you are about 5'5" to about 5'7'' tall because you are standing up in nearly every shot. try to mix up your perspectives ie: hi or low, try verticals also.

-washed out sunlight looks too dry, try early morning or around sundown for more shadows, contrast, and drama.

-"Russia, Tambov - it's the heart of the photo" ...where are the people who make up this town? what about this town makes it different from any other town that might have a heart. What is the heart of Tambov? show us.

-your pix of the port of Haifa had potential but you were too far away. get down into the mix (unless security is a issue) and show us these giant ships looking up from the docks, show us the workers. show us different times of day instead of high noon. many choices here.

-look at pix from the great photographers from books, internet etc..-don't copy them but think about what makes their famous pictures famous. what viewpoints did they use?, what did they shoot? if you see enough of these pictures you'll start to reconize situations that you could take advantage of in your own style

Yosef, I can see from this and other posts that you are trying which is great. But vision my friend, you need to make your pictures look something more than just a photo of an area. Composition, interest, feeling and emotion.

Please keep shooting and posting and learning rules, techniques, composition and cropping. You will see, and we will see, you grow.

A picture of an area or country is just that, a picture. We want to "feel" something when we view a pic, so please sock it to us :-)

Good luck.
