I have always heard don't leave a battery on the floor. Like, a car battery cause it will drain the battery... Does this got the same for my camera? Because, I for one lay my camera on the floor instead of leaving it on a table or something and risk getting it knocked over...

Just a question... NOOB...

No.
That advice is
for large lead-acid batteries
that are being stored
for a length of time.
I don't see any correlation.

No, there's no problem with that whatsoever (unless someone steps on or trips over your camera).

Actually, it's not true for lead-acid batteries either. It was popular "knowledge" that batteries on a concrete floor would discharge faster than on a wood floor or table.

About 20 years ago a car magazine (I think Car & Driver (sometimes called Car & Social Commentary)) did a test.

Their conclusion: no difference at room temperatures. They found, however, that at freezing temperatures the battery stored on the concrete had a lower charge until it warmed up - this was because the concrete conducts heat better than wood and therefore sucked the heat out of the battery more effectively. A cold battery has less capacity than a warm battery.

None of which has any effect on our camera batteries...

My only concern would be static from a carpet damaging the card or camera.

Like Mark said, my only concern would be the chances of tripping over it if it lays on the floor, or something falling on it. When not in use, I always store my cameras in their gear bag.

bannedPermanent ban

Next to the camera bag, floor is the safest place to put your camera temporarily, when you are on the go.

The only problem I have experienced with this concept was my dog, who has more than once been caught in the attempt to mark the camera as his own property.. :D

I sometimes place it on my bed, surrounded by other junk (folded clothes, etc.) to make sure no one sits on it. Or leave it on the pillow, I guess.

If it's a 1 series, I wonder if the weathersealing would work against hmm, such an accident...
