Hello, I'm hoping you can give me some insight on an occasional focusing problem I'm having with my new 40D. First I'm not sure how to save or cut an image out of zoombrowser that retains the Show Auto Focus Points :o, so I'm posting a screen capture until I am enlightened.

Link (external link)

EF-S 60mm f/2.8, (4.0 - 1/60), w/MR-14 E-TTL, Program AE mode with evaluative metering in AI Focus mode. I'm really just clicking away with various lenses trying to see if I get more Err99's (another subject), which I am not, but I'm seeing some sporadic shots where the camera or lens is not focusing on the (center) AF point I selected.

I'm an amateur for sure, but I did have a 20D previously that I took about 2K shots with and I do not recall ever seeing this precise issue. Am I wrong to think the focus should be right on the square, not inches left of it?

Regards,
Steve

Camera records (and ZoomBrowser shows) focusing point being active at the time focus was achieved and locked (usually, shutter button half pressed).
If you, for whatever reason, move your camera after the focus lock, but before the shot was actually fired (shutter button fully pressed), red square will be in the ‘wrong’ place in your picture.

Since the hair on the cat’s back seems to be in focus, either you have moved your camera after the focus lock, but before shutter actuation, or you have EF-S 60mm with sporadic back focusing problem.
Former, more likely than later IMHO.

Ahh, OK, that helps me a lot Hermeto, Thanks! I'll be extra careful and watch for that.

Is there a way to save the images out of ZB with those focus points still visable? I see folks posting pics with them, but every way I've tried of saving the images in ZB 5.8 results in the AF points disappearing.

Steve

If there is a way, I am not aware of it.
BreezeBrowser Pro can also display active focusing points, but other than Print Screen, I don’t know any other way to preserve them in the saved copy.
