My mkIII finally bit me. Drove all the way out to Rocky Mountain National Park. Opened up the bag, mounted the 500 and ERR 99. Doesn't matter if a lens is mounted or not:(

I guess this turkey is going to Canon on Monday. I hope to get it back by the 27th, 'cause I'm attending Photography at the Summit and would hate not to have the camera back by then.

Thankfully I had my trusty mkIIn and it bailed me out today. But I don't want to go to Jackson with one body.

Just on an off chance anyone else experienced this? Were you able to fix it?

I am afraid this has happened to others already and the "turkey" needs to be "fixed". This is one of the typical errors reported by people relative to the MkIII. This one and the famous AI Servo or AF erratic behavior are the most common. Sorry. Just have a look to the forums and you will see that you are not the only one ...

Cheers

I knew people were reporting AI Servo focus errors and thankfully I hadn't been bitten by that one. It has always workef flawlessly for me, until today.

I kinda figured that was the reply I was going to get, but I hoped someone had figured it out. I understand firmware 1.1.1 is supposed to help with this problem. I hope it does.

ARGH! When I read a post like this, it sends chills up my spine. I haven't had that problem yet. Let us know how it goes. Thanks.

This was happening to me, finally turned out to be the battery in my case. Luckily I had a spare which cured the problem :)... Faulty Battery now replaced :)

A pal of mine (I think he's on here as "Paul G"?) had an Err 99 on his Mk III which turned out to be a dead shutter - press the shutter button and the mirror would flip up, but the shutter wouldn't move.

Canon UK sorted things out in a few days.

I have 1.1.0 firmware.

Just got an email from Canon. Camera is repaired and Fedex is showing my package to be delivered before 3 pm on Monday. Way to go Canon!

Still don't know what was fixed. I'll post that information if I find out.

I wonder what firmware it will return with....could it be the mythical 1.1.1?

Hi all
Well what was thought to be a faulty battery causing err99 turned out to be the Camera which Canon replaced today. The fault is thought to be the circuitry/wiring to the connection pins for the lenses. Seems I am not the first to have had this problem..
Camera was 508*** now have 535*** AF is OK and came with firmware 1.1.0

Rumour has it Canon do not QC before dispatch which seems incredible to me
