My friend actually worked at CompUSA and said to get the 3 year warranty, "accidentally" break the item right before the warranty was up, and get a newer model.

I bought the extended plan on my 20D a couple of years ago and literally 5 days out of factory warranty it had to be serviced with a bad shutter. They also completed it and had it back to me in 7 days and cleaned the sensor while they had it. I never buy warranties but this one paid off!

Congrats on the new camera! Happy Shooting!

Customer service goes a long way. Good to hear of the positive experience.

No, just remember that by adding up all the "insurance" costs you've paid for electronics, then deducting what you've actually benefited, you can see the real cost of these programs. Unless you rarely buy them and just get lucky, they're not worth it. If they were, the stores wouldn't push them so hard.

I don't buy them, and I've saved much more than those who do, even if I break something now and then.

i got mines at best buy as well .. and only reason i got the service plan (not accidental) was because they would let me use the 10% off coupon which normally excludes DSLR. so i got them to manually add the 10% so in the end, i pretty much got the service plan for free.

i didnt bother with accidental since i already got insurance through state farm on it.
