I've noticed after trying out the 40D it's very uncomfortable when my nose hits the LCD. Is it true you can modify the canon eyepiece extender to where there is no loss in the size of the viewfinder?

Thanks;
Another question.

I thought when using Live View, when you varied the shutter speed and aperture in Manual mode, the LCD image would under or overexpose accordingly to your settings?

Depends on C.Fn.IV 7.
If it’s set to 0: Disable, LCD will auto adjust.
If it is 1: Enable, LCD will simulate exposure changes and look brighter or darker.

its just magnified a fraction, if i could i would remove it yeah.

not sure i would imagine so its just some screws attached to a plate which houses the glass so you would just put that back in.

once removed it would look like without the extender but extended, so put your eyecup thing back on the body itself and thats what it is.

I’ve never tried it, but I guess that without the glass, field of view will be cropped from all sides for about 30%.
You can’t have both.
You either have to reduce the viewfinder image size (with glass), or to reduce the field of view (without glass).

I could be wrong though..
If anyone has the direct experience, please correct me.

The piece of glass is purely put their for glasses users, I have removed the glass from mine (just a couple of screws can easily be removed and put back together if needed) and can see the entirety of the viewfinder at full size. I didn't like the fact the piece of glass magnifies the VF by about 0.7 or something so I got rid of it.

Cool Cider! I have that extender too. I didn't like the magnification either. I'm gonna try it. Thanks. :)

Ok. The only tool you need is one of those small phillips screwdriver. There are 2 screws on the back and just remove those. One you open it, there is a small metal plate. Remove that and the two magnification pieces can be removed. The only thing I put back was the back plate and put the screws back. Make sure you tighten it so there is no play. If you don't tighten it well, it'll make a shaky noise so, make sure it's tightened.
I put it back and the view is the same. Happy shooting!

Crashoran, your nose doesn't touch the screen if you hold the camera a bit differently, let your nose stick out to the left, works for me. :)

This is great, I think everybody should have this extender if not using a 1-series body. Thanks for everyone who tested it out! I am going to add this onto my 40D order soon.

I have dusty one laying around here somewhere. I might give it a try as well.
