I mainly shoot my kids hockey and sofball games. Some normal family stuff and thats about it. What would be a better camera for me the 30D which I currently have or the 1D (original 4.1mp)? I am pretty new to photography but which one would be a better fit in the long run. Thank you

1D MKII n, Sigma 70-200 2.8, 50 1.8, 380 ex flash, Gary Fong diffuser, hopefully more soon.
Still learning and hopefully getting better.

Well - I had the 30D, bought a 1D to go with it, sold both and bought a Mark II.

Does that help?

Do you want to carry around a heavier camera? If not then stick with 30D
Do you need to print out larger than say, A4? If so then stick with 30D

I think I'd stick with the 30D. I hope you get some more answers to help you choose.

If you shoot mostly sports - I'd recommend the 1D. I have one for sale if you are interested.

Sell the 30D and get the 1D Mark II, which in theory is a 1Dino and a 30D mixed together. You'll get the best from both worlds.

NO! NO! NO! Never let your wife know that one body can do the work of two.The 1D for sports is fantastic, small clean files that require no post-processing is where you want to be, alone with the 135L and a coaching card so you can shoot from the penality box, instead of through dirty glass.

I went from 10D --> 1D --> 1DMk2 and then back to 1D...
Exactly what Psychic1 said above!

If you're shooting hockey, you're going to want a 1D-series. A 30D isn't going to cut it....hockey is a tough sport to shoot...like arena football.

Seeing as you probably don't need the rugged build of the 1D, the 30D with double the MP's and a lighter body may be the better deal.

You didn't tell us what are the current results with the 30D and hockey.
Since I bought my 200 f/2.8L I'm overwhelmed by the accuracy of the 20D's AF. Honestly, I'd be now hesitant to drop the advantage of an extra 4MP and the low noise of the 20D for the 1D.

Great pictures... am I mistaken or do I see some banding in the second picture (guy's pants)? What serial number whereabouts do you have?
