This is probably my favourite Hoverfly shot so far, really happy with this image. 1:1 and crop :) Again, thanks to Brian for the Coca Cola diffuser instructions, and his advice, much appreciated.

Dave

Thanks guys, yeah it does look dark on the Library's LCD monitors as well. This is a few images now, I suspect my monitor isn't set up properly, interesting. I really want to get a calibration tool to fix the monitor issue, but alas, need to save my pennies ;)

I remember telling the missus that photography was a cheap hobby...
I wonder why she doesn't believe me anymore...

Well, I tried to recalibrate my LCD monitor but it hasn't been very successful...at least with Adobe Gamma...even with contrast set to max. and brightness to absolute minimum, the testing patterns are far too bright...that's even after lowering gamma to try and balance things out as well...I've heard of monitor's white points fading over time, but getting brighter!?!?!?

Hey Dave!

Great looking shot, but as people before have said, it looks a little dark. Otherwise, great composition and sharpness!

As for your monitor, you may have one of those "Super Uber Contrasty Mode" settings that companies like Sony do. See if maybe you can turn that off?

Thanks Chris. I've had a play but alas...I had the monitor much better before it was sent away for repairs (faulty LCD screen, replaced by LG's authorised repair agency). The replacemetn LCD screen just doesn't seem as good as the original one (problem with the original one not withstanding of course - a row of faulty pixels where the voltage wasn't correct).

Based on LG's service and customer service support I cannot recommend any of their products in all honsety. I waited 8 weeks before they agree to give me an entirely new monitor, 4 weeks later nothing, so I rang them again and they renegged on it and said that they'd ONLY repair my monitor...I was not impressed.

I've spoken to my bank manager tonight (my parents) and they've also lent me a bit more money to get a Huey Pro calibration setup, which should fix the problem. My parents have luckily understood that photography means a lot to me, and that I'm trying to move that way career wise anyways, so this gear that they've helped me get will last me a number of good years and will help me in the long run.
