Spotting Scope Help

Hello,
I'm looking to buy a spotting scope, untill now I've had Bushnell binoculars 16x50, but on a recent trip to Canada it broke. So now I am looking to upgrade for something better, like a spotting scope. The thing is I don't know the first thing about them, so any help would be appreciated.

What is your planned price range?

Well, I'm not really sure what's the price range for a good scope, but I was hoping somewhere less than $200?

I have used a regular telescope with an adapter that fits in where the small end lenses would go and a Canon body screws into that. But everything I have seen about using spotting scopes is, they are mostly used with P&S cameras, where the whole lens sticks into an adapter.
