A friend of mine told me that EF 70-200 F/4.0 (the one that I'm interested in) will discontinued, is it?

Not too certain if it is being discontinued, but the price may be lower if there are rebates issued soon (I hope) or once BF rolls around (if you can wait). Discontinued or not, I hear it is a great lens. Looking to get one myself. Can't stop buying gear!

The f/4 IS didn't come instead of the f/4, it's just an addition to the 70-200 'fleet'. Can't stop buying gear!

A UV 70-200 f/4L and a UU 70-200 f/4L IS, as I said, seems to show that the 70-200 non-IS is not going to disappear from the "brand new" market any soon. Not that there are many old in stock, just that they're still being manufactured. The f/4 IS has got more damped zoom and focus rings, very good IS, good weather sealing, and not to forget, MUCH BETTER OPTICS. The optics are much different than in the non-IS. The lens is so sharp that I'm really thinking of selling my non-IS. But, well, the 100-400 is my main lens so I doubt I'd do it... at leas... Aero PS: Has an IS lens ever been updated (I'm not talking about 75-300 IS to 70-300 IS)? Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L II IS USM is really a long name for a lens. ![]() IS lenses wont be called updated... but wil be replaced like the 70-300 IS replaced the 75-300 IS. This means that not only the IS part is updated but that other neat mods will be made on the new lens! It may have been redesigned but its still fundamentally the same lens but with IS added. Even in comparison with other lenses within Canons own range, the price penalty for the IS lens is bloody huge. Completely unjustifiable.
