40 d problems

I have a 40d first one i got colours were flat and lifeless canon replaced

second one i got colour was ok but the reds were stuffed and came outmore of a pink and auto focus issues

i know 3 ppl with 40d and the same issues reds are out and the autofocus is ****

any one else having these issues ?

Nope. Mine has great and very true colour and autofocus is blazing fast and accurate. Pics have never seemed so sharp.

Sorry to hear that you are having problems. Can you post any pics with exif for comparison? Are you shooting raw or jpeg? And if jpeg, what picture settings do you use?

nah shooting jpeg there is an issue there have spoke to canon rep about the first one but yeah the reds is a bit of an issue

Is the colour a problem for printing or viewing on the web? If viewing on your computer, what program are you using (and is your monitor calibrated).

Colour is such a complex area. Having said that, Canon reds have been reported as being problematic at times (from other camera models), depending on the colour space.

So far though, I've found the 40D quite good for colour across the range. But I haven't done any testing (and likely won't).

A couple of things you might want to try. Switch between sRGB and Adobe RGB and see if you like the results from one better than the other (not for the web, just use sRGB for that). Also, you could try different picture styles or altering the styles in the camera and see if that helps.

i might try adobe rgb .... but i use a crt for the pure reason that i am fussy with colours.

just a shame cos it seems ok other than that

Differences between sRGB and AdobeRGB would be visible (perhaps) only in a print. With a calibrated monitor and viewed in a color managed application they should look exactly the same.

The only "red" issue I'm having with my 40D is the tiny red hot pixel in the lower left corner of the LCD. Other than that my pictures are turning out quite... picture perfect.

BTW, I use aRGB and shoot RAW+Neutral.

You and your friends should post some samples so we can check it out.

I have been very happy with mine. AF is even better then my 5D and color seems to be pretty darn accurate on par with my 5D (with jpeg & raw).

I just thought of something. Not to insult your intelligence as I'm sure you know how to handle your gear, but could you by chance have maybe inadvertently adjusted the white balance correction [WB SHIFT/BKT], shifted over to the magenta zone and not have realized it? Might be worth a look. If it still reads "0" across the board have you tried using the WB correction feature to compensate?

every other colour is spot on so i dont think its the white balance

Red's look OK to me. ISO 1250 with highlight tone priority and high ISO noise reduction enabled. Unprocessed JPEG right from the camera.

What software do you use to capture all that EXIF data?
