Since I had the image posted in Flickr, I just used their "Show other properties" link and cut and pasted. But the Windows pluging for Windows Exploerer will also show the same thing, as will the Opanda plugin.

Um... Dave? What exactly is the problem here? ??? Maybe it's just me, but your reds look fine. I was expecting to see shots with a magenta cast or something. And if you think your reds look more pink, that stuff is easily sorted out during PP. Judging by the comments you received on the photos, I would say that 99.9% of the population viewing those shots could give two squirts about how your reds look. Those are great shots!

Only problems ive had with Red is loss of detail in the red channel if using the Standard Pic style in DPP when shooting RAW.
One reason i dont really use DPP.

You're using auto white balance. That may be the root cause of your problem if you're either just using the jpeg straight out of the camera or are postprocessing using DPP.

Canon may have changed the algorithm used for auto white balance such that it doesn't do as well during the day as it would otherwise, but regardless it's not something to use if you want consistent color from shot to shot. I notice that your daytime shots are often in overcast conditions, with some sun peeking through occasionally. A varying light color will cause variations in your white balance, which will cause the colors you capture to change subtlely as the light conditions change.

If you're shooting in RAW then you can manually set the white balance in postprocessing to whatever you choose, and you can also (depending on your postprocessing software) pick a "white point" that tells the software what color is considered a pure neutral tone -- the software will adjust the white balance of the shot accordingly.

I do think I see the issue you're complaining about -- some of the reds look to me like they have a slight "hot pink" look to them, at least on my monitor. I would wager that adjusting the white balance properly will eliminate this problem.

EDIT: one more thing: if you blow the red highlights then the green and blue components will wind up being elevated relative to red in those highlights and you'll end up with a pinkish look, but the color cast you're seeing appears to be consistent in the reds across the entire image (for those images where it appears), so I don't think this is a case of blowing color highlights, at least if you didn't have to mess with the levels too much during postprocessing.

I,m having the same problems, with my 20d & 17-40L you never missed focus. Took the 40d on its first job tonight and not impressed at all. Photos are bland and missed focus alot. (It was one presentation after the other and you could not hold up proceedings) 20d is way ahead of this, will have to send it back. What picture style has most 40d users been comfortable with?
