And all I can really say is "HOLY ##&%@%$ (INVALID EMAIL) $^!@". This camera is awesome. I had a 300D, which always made me happy with IQ, then I went to the 30D, which for some reason just never did all that much for me. This camera just blows them both away. I haven't switched lenses, and I'm using the same Picture Style I was using with the 30D, but my colors are crisper and smoother, my AF didn't miss it's target a single time yesterday out of over 250 shots, and just in general all of my shots left me happier than they had with my 30D. This camera is the $#!^. :D

The only downside is that it burns through CF cards like crazy while shooting RAW+L. Oh well, CF cards are fairly cheap, and so is hard drive space.

:D Just got a 40D myself - not even opened the box yet, and don't have a lens with me, so will break her in tonight. Can't wait!

Great to hear you love your camera. I can't wait to try one.

Imagine what the 1DsIII is going to require for cards. They should have put 3 or 4 card slots in that one instead of just 2.

I am on the fence about "upgrading" to the 40D from the 30D. I think my wife would like the live view (I like the viewfinder myself). But my oh my how the value of the 30D has dropped like a Nikon dropped off the Empire State Building.

I was starting to kick myself about spending the $1400 or so for the 40 when I could have gotten a lightly used 30D for about $800, but once I took it out and REALLY used it, I have no regrets.

Please refrain from posting such threads!
I'm waiting for a scholarship check to get here so I can upgrade from the Rebel XT and threads like these are making it VERY hard to wait.
A pox on your household! Kidding. Thanks for always reinforcing the decision to upgrade!

Happy shooting. I pick one up last week as backup for the 5D and I really enjoy it.

Had mine for about a week now and just love it, so much nicer than the 400D. Higher ISO performance is awesome.

Definitely agree about the file size though. RAW in 40D has been averaging 12 or 13 meg where in my 400D RAW was 8meg. Definite differnce. I used to get 700+ pics on my 8gig card and now get just under 600. Oh well, the price we pay for better images.

Below is one of my favorites so far. This was taken hand held with my 17-55 f/2.8 IS.

Really cool how well the 40D is going over. The 30D just seemed like an afterthough -- really minimal upgrades over the 20D. If I hadn't just gotten my 20D, I'd definitely consider the new model.
