Since the new Mark III thread is for contributing pertinent and relative info concerning new firmware, settings and rightfully so feel free to rant and rave here about your experiences with either the camera or Canon itself. Please keep it clean and no personal insults.

i'll play.
just got mine delivered this morning.
first impressions:

LCD is HUGE!
it's not as heavy as the 1DS II that i held last week. which is a big plus!
i dont know where to start with this camera - it's so intimidating!
viewfinder is BRIGHT!
can't see any of the focus marks until i half press the shutter button. it's not like the 20d where the focus marks are already on the screen and the active one lights up. it's just one big clean clear screen :-)

battery charger is HUGE! it's not compact like the 20d's

mirror slap sounds very different to the 20d. i've only shot it 2x but will have more play tonight and will post pics of it. (i got it with a 16-35 and 580 ex II)

firmware is 1.1.0
serial number is 531xxx

The battery is very nice; it lasts for a LONG time. 2000 photos now, still 23% left.
The mirror slap sound scared me at first when I shot in 8 fps. Got used to it. Also, the mirror slap sound is very similar to Nikkon 2DX.

Will that change if firmware 1.1.1 fixes the AF problem?

I have been extremely pleased with my MKIII. I have about 18k actuations and have no gripes whatsoever. Canon really pulled out all the stops with this camera and it's a dream come true. I have shot motorsports, BIF and a wedding and I do have to say I could not be happier with the results. Color accuracy and smoothness with the new 14-bit A/D converter is breathtaking. AF speed and accuracy is better than my MKII and shooting motorsports, the 10fps is awesome! Great job Canon. Thanks.

It's great now the 40d is out and almost every post on the first page is related to the 40d and some with focus issues.

I seem to remeber these same things happening with some sony cameras I had a few years ago and soem Nikons now as well on other forums of course.

I think no matter what camera anyone owns and who it is from there will problems, new models esepcially.

I guess i count myself lucky that my equipment seems to be fine or atleast myself and people that look at my pictures and buy them are happy.

Both my mkIII's are early serial numbers 51xxxxx, but i do not buy in to the whole serial number thing either generated generally by internet soap boxes and hype.

I hope no matter what people plan to do or end up with is happy one day.... Maybe they just thrive on equipment and potential issues versus just going out and taking pictures? I try to stay out of these kind of threads and have kept myself from looking at any thread that starts of with the word problems with or this isnt working or i hate canon now or anything of those natures just because any post in these threads are typically taken as personal attacks or people take them that way or just plain end up in silly arguments over stupid stuff.

Goodluck everyone....

I have had my 1D Mk III for about 2 months now and have shot 15k, and am VERY pleased with it.

In shooting sports, because of its low noise performance, I can shoot at ISO 400 to achieve higher shutter speed without worrying about digital noise, effectively, my lenses are all at least one stop faster now.

Had my 1d3 for about a month now and I've not
been able to fault it in this time. I've searched
as best I can for the focusing problem which is often
discussed, but I cannot find much to report on this. This is with respect to those who have found this problem.

I would like to say that the image quality is superb!
The image noise is minimal, battery life great and lets
not forget the anti dust system also.

Good luck with your copy and for those who have found problems
with the focusing, I certainly hope 1.1.1 will do the trick and
we can all settled down again and just enjoy a fine camera.

Marty

I love my MARK III and since I worked out my shooting needs, t hasn't failed me. The ROF is unreliable at this time and I wouldn't dare shoot a turtle crossing the road with it. I'll be shooting some Soccer this weekend and see how that goes. LAters.
