First try at using the lomo action. I really love it. I am sure it is to taste and may be a bit too reddish orange to some people but I love the way it made her makeup look.

Amanda - I haven't had much time to play with it yet...only a few minutes yesterday and haven't gotten that far today. I think I'm missing the focus point on the cat at 1.4...need to practice and experiment some more!

How are you doing at 1.4 on the 50? Does it seem like you are getting the right focus point?

I think I'm getting it now, but it did take a while to get the hang of as when you're doing up-close stuff, there's really no room for error at 1.4. Funny you mention it, I was just doing pics of my cat today, and still not quite used to the shallow DOF. got several like this:

Hit the focus but at 1.4 the DOF was way too shallow.

I like the look of lomo on some shots I've seen. I don't think it's too much on that one. wish I could use it! PS is almost at the top of my list of must-haves.

bottom right corner, there is a spot that came out red on her arm. that's the only thing I don't like about it

Beautiful cat!

Most of mine look like they are in focus pretty much where I want them until I zoom right in, then I'm not sure it's hitting exactly right. Of course, if one isn't being stupid about the zoom thing it likely doesn't matter LOL Sometimes I play too much.

maybe try a mask there to reduce the opacity of the action? I'm not entirely sure how actions work in PS.

She was my baby before I had babies, and we really don't have any pictures of her since I had babies, so my new mission is to get some of her.

I always preview the raw file 1:1 to check sharpness. I don't think most people do though. If it's missing a lot, maybe your lens needs to be callibrated?

how would I do a mask just where the red spot is? I guess I could just use the healing brush

I need to do way more frames than the 20 or so I've done in total. Just seems that I focus on the eye, using the upper lid ridge, and the fur on his head just above is sharper than the eyelashes...but it could be me...the few tests I did on the wheel barrow seemed right...

Great shot Karena! I see what you mean about the reddish spot in the bottom, but it kinda reminds me of a the film burn look (like you would see in the movies), so I actually kind of like it.

As to cats, yowsers, don't get me started on posting cat shots, I must have about 3K of them on my pc...I actually use them for backgrounds on my phone as well. I love cats! It's dog's I seem to have trouble with...:)

Thanks Ben. Glad you like it. As soon as I saw the shot, I said to myself, I bet that lomo action would look nice on this one and it did :-) I am starting to understand what will look nice on what some times and knowing by looking at the photo is half the battle I guess.

I don't have nearly enough shots of my babies...my wallpaper is a portrait I took of my beloved girl, but I just don't have that many...yet. Mostly I use the animals to practice on and those images get dumped ;)

One more lomo. I LOVE the colors the lomo provides. I adjusted some of the layers on this one to bring it down just a tad bit.

I love MY cat, but in general, I much prefer dogs. I would love a dog, but hubby doesn't think it would be right to have a medium-large dog in town (I see his point) and I don't want a small dog.

Karena - the red spot doesn't actually bother me either, but in my program, I'd probably do it by duplicating the bg layer, putting the lomo on the top layer, then putting a show all mask on that layer and then using a big brush at maybe 20 hardness and 50 or so opacity to start bringing the top layer out a bit until you get it how you like it.
