OK, forget the prices. The market here will not support a $300 base package and the actual price of the package isn't that important to me...I'll figure out what the market wants and push it a bit ;)

But I really need to know what bits and bobs to include in a package. I don't have young kids, I don't get family portraits done, most of our friends don't have kids (at least at home) so I don't really have a lot of folks to ask to get a feel for what they think they want. So I wanted to come to you guys to see what sorts of things and in which quantities packages could contain.

I've taken the disk out of the base package completely as well as the print credit in the base package - that can be an incentive to get a higher end package which is the goal, right? Your base package is really basic and really is there to showcase your others?

So I've left (so you don't have to fiddle with going back through posts):
Package 1:
2 5x7s
1 8x10
1 set 8 wallets
web gallery

I think that was a good idea removing the disk, I'd also be tempted to remove the web gallery, to stop people from just trying to print those files, unless you plan to have them heavily water-marked & copyrighted.
But other than that I think that is a good package to start with.

Thanks for helping me - I owe you yet another beer ;)

I wanted the gallery so they could look at them and share to choose photos for printing? How else would I do it? I though that would be the lowest cost/time to do? And I thought maybe they'd link the grandparents etc in and they might buy prints etc as well that way - easier for the client, too. Marked images in the gallery for sure, though...and really small files/properties...

The web gallery is a good idea, just make sure to copyright/watermark your images!!

Hey Kristin,

I saw Jeff helping so I just backed off.

Morning Jeff.

yeah, your original ala carts would work well here..Jeff's were pretty high and would not do so well here..

Here is how alot of people figure it out...whatever it costs you to make a print, take that x3 or x5. then that is the amount you can charge and do well, do this with everything, even your coffee table books, etc. I've had to make some adjustments in that area, but not alot.

tons of help here and on the other threads also, I've been looking at other forums and threads lately and there is just so much help and info out there on anything you need to know.

Night, Kiki? LOL

Morning Lisa.

I didn't think my prices where that high... but oh well. I just priced it that high because of the disk, as soon as you sell that, you will get no other print sales.

Jeff - I've lived here for years and I still get screwy with the times...doesn't help that all of my closest friends are in Nth America so I adjust my schedule here to spend time with them LOL

Lisa - I appreciate any and all feedback as I take my first wobbly steps down this path! I think I have a good feel for where I want to start out on the actual prices and Sunday will be a great day to test that out coz this lady is connected into the family world in this town in a major way - kindy, regular school, day care, mommie group, playgroup, ballet class, gymnastics, I have no idea how she fits it all in! So she's my test case and I intend to pick her brain as much as possible ;)

I've been reading and reading and reading - it's amazing how generous people are!

Ya, Kiki - that's what Jenn has decided my new name is :D

Ok, no more phone calls, no more answering emails...I am off to bed for real this time!

See you all on the flip side...

For my area they were high...the ala carts is what I was talking about. I thought I said that, sorry. The package I thought hers was too low.

ahh, 6k it's just a number, unless I'm getting paid that amount THEN it's a big deal. LOL..

You know, bryan is a PW..for SURE!!!! lol I have no idea why I'm 2nd, I hardly post anymore, not like I used to.

Good morning! I've already gone out twice and now am getting ready for teaching. I'm sorry I haven't been here much. Sounds like everyone is gearing up for the weekend. I am still waiting to decide whether I should get a new laptop with XP Pro, or a 40D. I don't really need either, but I was working to get the 40D and now I'm rethinking it due to my laptops being stupid and old.
