I am SO glad that you were with her, Lonnie, and that you didn't meet up with us today.

That occurred to me, too. I'm so glad (?) it happened when she was with me, rather than while she was with her babysitter or a kennel.

My name is Lonnie, but I answer to Thomas too.

Oh Lonnie...that's a great memory of the wonderful adventures you two had together! Again, I'm so sorry.

Ashley is dead... :(

Really sorry to hear that Lonnie! It's always hard when they go over the Rainbow Bridge.

Author unknown... wrote:
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I don't know what I'm going to do with her ashes just yet. I should probably scatter them on the summit of White Mountain Peak.

I think that's a great idea Lonnie.

Not much, but it's therapeutic for me. Really sorry, Lonnie.

I agree...that was very good that you were with her Lonnie.

I just got back from the pet hospital (no, not that one!!!). I paid the $75 for a special cremation and to have Ashley's ashes returned to me. I've had dozens of pets in my life, but I've never done this before. But, Ashley was special, dammit!

I don't know what I'm going to do with her ashes just yet. I should probably scatter them on the summit of White Mountain Peak. She was one of the very few dogs to ever see the summit of that 14,246' mountain. Heck, most PEOPLE haven't been up there)

My cats are acting strange. The cats and Ashley always just ignored each other, but obviously they know something is wrong...

That is a good idea Lonnie; to have Ashley cremated...and taken to be scattered about in a special location which you have fond memories of her.

I wonder why the cats are acting strange...wonder if they sense Ashley's presence.

Lonnie, I still have Turner's ashes. I had him cremated as well. He is sitting in a special place right now. Someday soon I will be taking them to where my dad's ashes are spread and will put his ashes there. It's a truly beautiful place.

I think the top of the mountain would be an awesome place for you and for her. It will be very therapeutic for you to make that climb one more time.

My thoughts are with you.

Me too!! Nice. :D

Lonnie, great idea in regards to the ashes. While I personally don't believe there is spirit left in the ashes, I do believe it is healthy for you to place these ashes in memory of her in a special place. A place that will then always bring back fond memories. With Ben's ashes, they were spread partially on Nose Hill, a place where we most commonly walked with him, and at our recreational property where he really enjoyed being.

Again, my condolences.
Soon the sadness will be replaced by wonderful memories. :D

I may hold onto Ashley's ashes for a while, too. I don't think I'm ready to let go just yet. It was almost three years before my brother and I had our dad's ashes scattered. My brother just couldn't let go. I know how that feels all over again... :(

This sucks!

The saddest period of my life that I remember was when I had to have my dog Muffin put to sleep. I was wracked with guilt and it took years for the "good" memories to surface again. All I could think about is what I did wrong.

But, with Ashley, I think it will be different. Yeah, I'm sad. I'm crying. But... All I can think of are the wonderful memories. We sure managed to pack a lot of adventures into the short time we had together! All of those hikes! All of those road trips! That little mutt saw more of California, Nevada, Arizona and even Oregon, than most people have. And, I'm damn proud to have been her tour guide!

On a mountain top seems like the natural place for Ashley, Lonnie.

Lonnie, my heart is so sad.

I have had the pleasure of Ashley's company a couple of times in the past
1 1/2 years and she was a wonderful dog. Here is a big hug from me and a photo I took of your little sweetie just a few weeks ago.
