At one time - not sure if this is true or not - I was once told that the Apple and the Dell LCD both contained the same OEM LCD panel....

Knowing what I do about the industry, it's entirely possible. Also knowing what I do, it's entirely possible that 'slipstream' changes were made. So even if a source is correct we have no way of verifying 100%. Also, ODM and OEM configurations can be changed for each designer, so.. Dell or Apple could have twiddled with the settings for the same panel.

Still, I like it. Looking at the specs and the price tag, I like it. Man I just wish the little Mac had dualhead so I could use dual 19"s the cheapskate way I am doing right now.

Ok, well then you are just paying a premium for the name. It is like buying Nike clothing.

Probably. But the free market can bite back.. I can stick a Dell LCD on the Mini if I want to.. and I probably will based on Scott's recommendation - I like it :)

Probably ;) (don't let Chief hear that ;) )

I have chosen to drink a little bit of the kool-aid, but I'm not drinking all of it. Since I'm stuck in a tech job I might as well use a bit of the knowledge to benefit myself and second-source other bits and pieces.

Dell's pricing is quite amazing too. When I clicked their 22-24" category, they put two monitors up side by side, a 22" priced at $275 and the 24" I like priced at $725.. excuse me while I crap my pants.. I could buy THREE of the entry level 22"s for the price of the 24".. daaaaang....

I know computers are important to the digital photog, but really, every time it comes to a toss up between glass and computers, glass always wins. I don't like spending $$ on the boxen.

Just don't getting the beer and the developer confused...one tastes much better than the other.

Yeah - there's really nothing to compare with a good stein of D-76!

Through 4 gigs on my 40D....

Well ok I totally refuse to make another 40d thread on the forum here. I shot the first 4 gigs this weekend out of my new 40d. I have been so tired however I did a quick and dirty job on the galleries, very little post processing. Anyway, go have a look if you would like to walk around a famous graveyard.

I believe the cheap entry level 22in have crappy TN or similar style panels.. But it have been a while since I looked at them.

They have the 207WFP which is the TN-panel, then the 2007WFP which is the S-IPS (higher quality). The 2007WFP goes for $300-$330 I think...

I personally (but I have dual DVI ports) would buy two 20" widescreens instead of the single 24" - more real-estate for less money :-D
