Mac cultist will pay for it :-D. Apple thinks they are better than the system

There's a lot to support that.

Back in college (the olden days ;)) I took a stats class that required us to use a program installed on machine in the computer lab. We had a Mac lab and a PC lab. The exact same software was installed (Mac and PC appropriate, of course) in both places. Some of the Mac faithful would wait 2+ hours to get to use a Mac to do the exact same thing that they could do on one of the PCs with no wait. I could never figure out what was it about the kool-aid that made the wait worthwhile.

I believe the cheap entry level 22in have crappy TN or similar style panels.. But it have been a while since I looked at them.

I suspect that they are using the entry level panels, regardless of tech. But I just need to justify it to myself. ;) what's the disadvantage of TN? The only things I recall with the words "TN" in it are the DSTN dual-scan displays of laptops fifteen years ago. That's been a bloody long time. (everything went active matrix around ten years ago!)

timbernet wrote in post #4000395 (external link)
They have the 207WFP which is the TN-panel, then the 2007WFP which is the S-IPS (higher quality). The 2007WFP goes for $300-$330 I think...

I personally (but I have dual DVI ports) would buy two 20" widescreens instead of the single 24" - more real-estate for less money :-D

If I had dual DVI ports we would not be having this discussion ;) my current Precision 380 workstation is driving a pair of Viewsonic 19"s.. very nice! And cheap too, whole setup cost me $600 for massive 2560x1024 real estate. The way I work isn't hampered too much by the border of the monitor separating my display because I treat them as two logically separate, independent displays that happen to be near each other.

Well folks, it has been fun - but now I have to write and study :-(

Later!

Wuss, so do I, but I am multi-tasking. Admittedly, researching and outlining is a bit easier than writing.

the TN and the cheap entry level panels will color shift when you tilt your viewing angle up and down. (Think laptop screen).

I wish I could get some, it would make this paper more bearable.

Timbernet did you mean _MG_0309? That image actually is the face of the angel cast in the previous photo. Reading what the statue was about made us both cry.

Ah, nasty. Thanks for the extremely concise yet compelling summary.

Apple really needs to fill a hole in their product lineup. This isn't my original idea, it was mooted recently, about a scaled-down MacPro with PC-comparable specs and PC-comparable upgradeability running MacOSX. This way I could have dual DVI, a system which uses industry standard DIMMs, hard disks, and so on. Apple's already running an almost open system with regards to these 3 components so it would not eat too much of the profit margin. This is the big advantage my Dell has.

The iMac is very nice but I am not comfortable with the monitor-computer integration. What if I want to use the monitor for other things? (I have a number of real uses, you should see my insane display switching setup here). Plus, the iMac has one external DVI output, not dual DVI.

Yea that would make sense, but the holy Jobs has not made it so, there for it must not be good.

Ha, I guess so. I really don't hate Apple, I hate the arrogance of the company and a lot (but definitely not all) of the supporters.

I hate the fact that Jobs prides himself in the fact that he takes 1 dollar in salary a year... WOO Effing HOO! You get a bazillion dollars in stock options your egotistic brat....

Wow, that was a bit much.

I hate the fact that for some reason apple things everything they do is revolutionary and will change our world. (MS can be the same way mind you). Anyone remember the hockey puck mouse?

And one button mice tick me off so does the mentality that created it. "the two button mouse is too confusing for the avg user (read apple user ).

That said, VISTA sucks butt to, and I may have to resort some day to Mac unless windows picks up it's game.

END RANT.

I don't like the one button mice either. I was VERY VERY VERY glad that all my right-click shortcuts are there in OSX - as per the Mini philosophy, I brought my own Logitech FIVE button mice to play. (I only use 2 and the wheel really)

Not fond of the revolutionary attitude and the PC dissing ads either. Really hate the ads and will change channel on TV when they come on (no kidding).

Before the switch to Intel hardware there was so much bull about how far superior the G4 and Altivec is to anything that ever existed in the PC world. The sacred cow was fed to the log chipper the day Apple switched to Intel. I loved that. Put the hype in its place all right.

The Mac is a great platform.. I wish they could let it stand on its own merits. To win that way would be far more satisfying than a win based on a clever marketing campaign. I didn't buy the marketing at all. What tipped me over the edge was Parallels and VMWare Fusion - the last place they'd look and something that's probably never even occured to most Mac users...

Is it really bad or is it your idea that it looks bad? Ask the daughter... puddle or someone else for their opinion. It could just be that it doesn't look like you thought it would. Or it just is wrong..

The other option is GO SHOPPING! YAY!:D

It was really bad!!

Don't panic (rule #1).

I tried the same 3 dresses on several times over several weeks before I got accustomed to what looked better.

Go to David's Bridal (they are in every major city) and try on a few things for back up. I am sure you'll end up liking the original purchase.

Send me a picture...I'll tell you the truth;)

Okay, Mo, I saw this earlier and reversed panic mode...and went shopping. And bought a lovely green suit that I think will work just fine. Dan likes it and I think Tif will because it's green and somewhat formal.

timbernet wrote in post #3999024 (external link)
Well I can tell you this much - don't wear "nothing" to the wedding....

That was definitely NOT an option!!

ibdb wrote in post #3999061 (external link)
OK - I'm now thoroughly convinced that it's LR and not me. Bridge sees the colors fine both places. I've deleted and reimported everything from the desktop -- still no color labels visible in LR, even though I can see them through Bridge at the exact same time.

Trying to reimport/resynch/reeverything isn't working. Is there anybody else out there who can test this or tell me I'm crazy.

I'll post to the general population later, but I'm about to head out to swim lessons now.

Hasta luego!

Sorry David, I have no idea...I even have a lightroom book but I dont' know what to look for...

wear the first outfit you bought.
I had the same problem I ended up wearing a chocolate skirt and top.
The jacket looks great with another bottom and the skirt is super with a long colorful sweater, but they did not look elegant s the did in the catalog pic. We still have a couple very nice separates, but the whole thing together didn't work for me.-- oh and can you return it?

Tif didn't like the first outfit...I mean, she thought it was pretty but not green and too casual. Sorry yours didn't work out but I'm glad your other one did. (is that the suit you showed me?)

check with crucial.com for the memory sticks used by the mac you want. Their memory proved ultra reliable on all the macs in the art and music departments on my former campus and all my mac using buds rely on them for memory. It is much less expensive.

I'm going to check these guys out.

Because they are not Mac programs ha.

I agree about the BS on the G4 stuff.
