Just a smidge....$215 for 5 of us not counting tip. A bit more than I am accustomed to paying for dinner....especially when you have to cook half of it yourself at the table!

You got off cheap! We went for an anniversary dinner a couple years back. The two of us, who didn't drink alcohol, easily topped $100 before tax and tip. Amazing food and great service -- but definitely one of the pricier meals we've ever had. For relatively simple fare, it adds up very quickly.

My brother and his wife celebrated an anniversary there with a bottle of wine recommended by their server. I think the two of them nearly doubled your total for five. I find it hard to spend that much on a meal. That's glass money! ;)

Hey Yoda? are you buying it from Dell AU direct? If so, how much for? We can lever off our company's purchasing if you want?

Thanks for the offer, I appreciate it :)

Not buying through Dell AU. Going to go home, a long way away, and buy from Dell back there. You've given me a good idea though, I should see whether our corporate account can do anything for us. We do have one. (guess who at the office kept beating the drum to buy from Dell.. yes.. I do run the show or at least most of it.. ;) )

Ah, not your usual pelican shot. So that's what's inside the long neck of theirs. That one looks like it's having a really bad day.......

Superb. Here's mine, not so good though.

But still a bit gross.

np.

Bear in mind, that the last time I got a quote, it was $799AUD FIS. Compared to the web price, that's dirt cheap. :D:D

Ooooo wow! That IS cheap!

And I just discovered the power of VMWare Fusion.. I am running Windows inside a Mac just like any other application.. VERY trippy!!

Unity is amazing. I can pull Winamp out to my Mac's desktop just like it was made to be there. Absolutely cool. And you can drag and drop files straight onto your Windows desktop from your Mac, so you can share and share alike.. absolutely amazing!!

And the snapshots to turn back time are cool, too. You know what Windows does.. I don't need to screw with Ghost (or open source alternatives with flaky NTFS support) and all the other crap. Just take the snap and back it out... awesome.

Wish I had a MacPro too. It is a phenomenal machine but so is the price tag. I don't need quad cores, just two cores are fine with me, but I need a boatload of RAM especially if working with PS and virtualizing systems. AND DUALHEAD, DAMN IT!!!!!

yeah!!! the entry level one was about $4K

unfortunately that's what pushed me back to PC :( quad core, 8G RAM, 8800GTS for <3K :|

if only i had more disposable type income :(

That's the turn-off for me too. However, I'm also cutting down on my personal computing to limit it to what's needed - web browsing, Skype, my personal email, and photography, so a Mini happens to fit right in with those limitations. I'll probably pick up a WD Mybook with Firewire for directly attached storage, and back the whole lot up over onto the NAS. (custom NAS running FreeBSD.. once a sysadmin, always a sysadmin). Photoshop will run just fine with 2GB.

Ironically with a PC, there's no need to virtualize stuff. I probably wouldn't run OSX in a VM.. not much point.

Surprisingly the FreeBSD knowledge comes in very useful when I need to dive in 'under the hood'. I already understand more about the Mac than most users, despite not having spent much time on it, because so much of the internals, the 'deep magic', is the same as the FreeBSD systems I know and love. (OSX is a descendant of FreeBSD, specifically the 4.x-RELEASE train)

For most users they never need to see the guts and that really IS a good thing. For those of us who want to go there and tap the power, most of the comforts of home are there. I was just fixing up MRTG on my Mac.. :D and of all things, my batch image processor was written in PHP with ImageMagick.. fully portable to OSX. Even PHP has been installed for me. And /bin/tcsh. Must have my tcsh!! (sorry, not fond of bash.)

I suppose no one around here ever wakes up in the middle of the night just longing for a good cup of coffee....

....this machine is going to be the end of me...it's waywayway to easy to make myself a cup :lol:

now that I'm finished and nice and toasty warm inside and out...it's back to bed. And I'll see if the caffeine is gonna do something that will keep me up rather than put me to sleep.

oh, and I bought a refurbished mac for our 3rd one. The price was good (about half what you are talking about) and we can add our own ram. You could think about that...

g'night for the 3rd time.

3rd time...either that means I'm charming or....

...I'm never going to get sleep tonight!

No, I never drink coffee when I'm trying to sleep. We know you love us though :)

Refurb boxes are great for secondary machines - my laptop is a 4 year old Ebay Dell, and my UNIX box was a $125 recycled system :D but likely not for my primary machine where I need something a little bit more current though. Glad I got the Aug 2007 facelift of the Mini: new processors, more RAM, etc.etc.

It's great value - and great 'switcher' material :)
