Scott, this little point and shot does even better near a window where there is better light! It is so quick and easy, much faster than photocopying pages for refer to later.

Did you ever see the movie "Firewall"...
Not the best Harrison Ford movie on earth and not the most technically accurate (not by a long shot).

But he made something out of the scanner part of a fax machine and an iPod - to read text and store the data to the iPod to later be downloaded and OCR'ed... Hahaha - so wouldn't work, but a great idea

Yea, I know. I wish I had a better standalone OCR reader. I am amazed with the one that I have for me scanner, OCRs have come along way since I last used one.

They still get "O" and "0" confused, and "1" and "l"

Harrison Ford is good, but Scottie was better. Do you remember what he did with a 512K Mac in Star Trek IV?

Yea, but oh well, It is still better than transposing an entire qoute . and my scanning program makes searchable pdfs... another nice thing !

My first three computers were Apple.... Starting with OS 6.0.3 to OS 7.1...

And I think Riley might remember this... or maybe this happened before I met Riley, but I used to be a real Mac Evangelist.

OK -- I don't want to hear any more whining from camera buyers about release dates for lenses and bodies.

I mentioned a while back that I was looking for a new PDA/Phone. The one that I like the best is ancient in technological terms, having been released in late 2005/early 2006. The replacement to that model, which of course has significant technical improvements across the board, has been rumored to be released in 2/07, 6/07, 8/07, 9/07, 10/07, and 11/07. Depending on where I look, people are predicting releases any where from last week (guess they should take that one down ) to the Thanksgiving weekend.

It's been delayed due to the Qualcom, Broadcom chip lawsuit -- but things were apparently settled in 6/07, 8/07, or 9/07 depending on where I look.

The end result is that the phone I want now is likely to be end of serviced before I even get it home. The phone I'd much rather have may or may not be available soon, or not so soon. The others that are available in the meantime lack significant features I want, or offer to sell additional components to provide the same features the one I want already has built in.

At least Canon gives us twice a year for everyone to get worked up into a frenzy. Trying to weed through all this stuff is impossible.

I remember that... it didn't take you too long after that to convert though. 3 years tops.

Well I need to get a couple of these books checked out and return the bazillion reference books I am surrounded by and then head to class. Cheers.
